EastEnders legend Pat Evans is set to return to Walford in a special episode this December, 13 years after her character's on-screen death. Actress Pam St Clement will reprise her iconic role as part of Nigel Bates' ongoing dementia storyline.
Pat, known for her extravagant earrings, numerous love affairs and explosive storylines, last appeared in Albert Square in May 2016 as a figment of Peggy Mitchell's imagination. Her official departure came in 2012 when Pat died from cancer on New Year's Day.
In the upcoming episode, Nigel's memories and altered reality transport him back to the 1990s, where Pat returns to The Queen Vic to help him as his dementia symptoms intensify after an emotional evening at his festive film screening. EastEnders has collaborated with Dementia UK on the storyline from its inception.
Pam St Clement said: 'I was both surprised and excited to be asked back to tread the streets of Walford once again and to be involved in Nigel's touching dementia storyline. It was lovely to be welcomed back by those with whom I had worked for so long. It was just like coming home.'
Executive Producer Ben Wadey added: 'It's an honour and a privilege to welcome Pam St Clement back for a special episode. Pat Evans is one of the most cherished and iconic characters to have graced Walford, and it was a delight to see Pat and Pam back in The Queen Vic as she helps Nigel in his time of need.'
