X-Files icon David Duchovny has revealed an unexpected motivation behind his decision to star in Prime Video's new psychological thriller, Malice. The actor, best known for his role as Fox Mulder, confessed that the opportunity to film in Greece played a significant part in his acceptance.
The Allure of Greece
In a recent interview, Duchovny explained that despite Greece featuring prominently in his imagination throughout his life, he had never visited before filming Malice. The six-part series, which streams between London and Greek locations, provided the perfect opportunity.
"I'd be lying if I said coming to Greece wasn't part of the reason," Duchovny admitted. "I've never been here, and it's figured prominently in my thinking for my entire life. I loved Greek mythology as a kid: it's the whole basis of Western civilisation, thought, literature, poetry and music."
Family Connections and Future Plans
Despite a demanding filming schedule that limited his exploration time, Duchovny has made plans to properly experience the country with his son, who shares an interest in archaeology. The actor specifically mentioned visiting Despotiko island, where parts of Malice were filmed against ancient ruins.
"My son is here now [in Greece], and he's interested in archaeology so we will explore together," Duchovny shared. "I'm going to have him go out to the Despotiko island where we shot against the ruins."
About Prime Video's Malice
The new thriller features Duchovny as Jamie Tanner, the head of the affluent Tanner family, who unsuspectingly hire a seemingly charming "manny" named Adam during a Greek holiday. Jack Whitehall portrays Adam, whose hidden intentions and quest for revenge against the family form the core of the drama.
While the gripping script initially attracted Duchovny, the 65-year-old actor's lifelong fascination with Greek culture ultimately sealed the deal. Despite his packed schedule, which includes multiple upcoming projects, the chance to work in Greece proved irresistible.
Malice is now available for streaming on Prime Video, joining Duchovny's other forthcoming projects including comedy-drama See You When I See You with Kaitlyn Dever, mini-series Truly Like Lightning, thriller Unearthed, and horror film Young Men.
