Timothée Chalamet Reveals Background Actor's Jail Threat on 'Marty Supreme' Set
Chalamet's 'Marty Supreme' co-star gave chilling jail warning

Fresh from his Golden Globe win, actor Timothée Chalamet has shared a startling anecdote from the set of his latest film, Marty Supreme, involving a background actor with a formidable real-life history.

A Chilling Warning During Filming

Speaking at a Q&A session on Wednesday alongside Robert Downey Jr., Chalamet reflected on the challenges of working with non-actors in the ping pong drama. He described a motel sequence where he was struggling to provoke an angry reaction from one extra.

"I'm really getting in the guy's face and I'm really trying to get him angry with me," Chalamet recalled, noting he told director Josh Safdie the man wasn't responding. The dynamic shifted dramatically on another take.

"I did another take, and then the guy said, ‘I was just in jail for 30 years. You really don't want to f*** with me. You don't want to see me angry,'" the actor revealed. Chalamet's response to Safdie was simply: "Holy s***, who do you have me opposite, man?"

Robert Pattinson's Secret Role Unveiled

This behind-the-scenes story emerged just a day after director Josh Safdie disclosed a hidden cameo in the sports film. Speaking at London’s BFI Southbank on Tuesday, Safdie confirmed that Robert Pattinson provides the voice of the unseen announcer.

"No one knows this, but that voice — the commentator, the umpire — is Pattinson," Safdie stated. "It’s like a little easter egg... He came and watched some stuff and I was like, I don't know any British people. So he’s the umpire." The announcement comes during the British Open ping pong semi-final scene at the film's start.

Pattinson, 39, previously collaborated with Safdie on the critically acclaimed 2017 crime thriller Good Time.

Golden Glory and Oscar Buzz

Chalamet's revelations follow his significant awards season success. Earlier this week, the 29-year-old star won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of Marty Mauser.

This victory has significantly bolstered his prospects for the upcoming Academy Awards, where he is widely predicted to secure a Best Actor nomination. Should he be recognised, it would mark Chalamet's third Oscar nomination, cementing his status as one of Hollywood's most prominent young talents.
