Bridgerton Season 4 Teases Major Queen Charlotte Twist and Benedict's Romance
Bridgerton Season 4: Queen Charlotte Twist Revealed

Netflix has released tantalising new details about the upcoming fourth season of its hit period drama, Bridgerton, promising a significant twist for the formidable Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel).

A Royal Scandal Brews for Queen Charlotte

The streaming giant unveiled a new still image that has sent fans into a frenzy. It shows a visibly concerned Queen Charlotte holding a mysterious piece of correspondence, while her loyal man, Brimsley (Hugh Sachs), looks on with keen interest. The contents of the letter remain a closely guarded secret, but Netflix hints it will lead to game-changing revelations for the monarch this season.

The most popular theory suggests the message contains the latest gossip from the now-unmasked columnist, Lady Whistledown, played by Nicola Coughlan. In an interview, Coughlan confirmed her character Penelope's world will be upended as she grapples with her newfound fame and the Queen's intense scrutiny. "With Queen Charlotte becoming very involved in what she's doing, these are things she's never had to contend with before," the actress revealed.

Benedict's Forbidden Romance Takes Centre Stage

While the Queen deals with palace intrigue, the season's central love story belongs to the second eldest Bridgerton son, Benedict (Luke Thompson). His journey begins at a lavish masquerade ball hosted by his mother, Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell), where he is captivated by a mysterious Lady in Silver.

The object of his affection is soon revealed to be Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), a humble maid working for a new family in the ton. This sets the stage for a passionate romance that challenges the rigid class structures of Regency London. Showrunner Jess Brownell teased that this season will explore Benedict's free-spirited nature as both a genuine trait and a protective "crutch," promising to show what happens "when he finally starts to let people in."

Release Schedule and What to Expect

Bridgerton season 4 will be released in two parts, following the pattern of previous seasons. The first batch of four episodes will premiere on Thursday, 29th January 2026. Fans will then have to wait until Thursday, 26th February 2026 for the concluding part to arrive on Netflix.

The new season promises to intertwine the personal dramas of the Bridgerton family with the political machinations of the crown, all set against the backdrop of sumptuous balls and simmering societal tensions. With Penelope's secret out and the Queen taking a direct interest, the stakes for every character have never been higher.
