BBC Morning Live kicked off with a delightful announcement as hosts Gaby Roslin and Gordon Smart presented the final show of the week together. Announcement on Air
Addressing viewers at home, Gaby began: "Welcome to Morning Live with Gordon Smart and me, Gaby Roslin, live from Manchester until 10.45am on BBC One and iPlayer." Disclosing the guests appearing alongside them, Gordon stated: "A very good morning to you. Rounding off this week with us is gardener Mark Lane, pro dancer Nadiya Bychkova and Dr Punam. Good to see you all."
Before launching into the show, Gaby interjected to share news about Sara Cox's major accomplishment. Addressing viewers, she said: "Good morning everybody, but of course we have to say congratulations to one of our own, Sara Cox. She has just been announced as Radio Two breakfast presenter. Well done, Coxy." Gordon added: "Well done. Even earlier starts for Coxy now."
Sara Cox's New Role
It has been confirmed that Sara will take over from Scott Mills as host of the Radio 2 Breakfast Show, following weeks of speculation. The 51-year-old, who currently presents the station's teatime slot, said she was "ecstatic, honoured and incredibly chuffed" to be taking over the flagship show. "It's been a dream to host the breakfast show since I joined Radio 2, and it feels like a bit of a full circle for me," she said.
Concluding her statement, she remarked: "I've had the most glorious seven years of my career on Teatime, so thank you to my brilliant Teatime listeners who hopefully will join me at Breakfast for excellent music and all my usual nonsense plus some superstar guests. I honestly can't wait to wake the nation up with the biggest, most fun breakfast show ever."
Background on Scott Mills
The BBC confirmed Scott Mills' exit before it emerged that the Metropolitan Police had launched an investigation into the 53-year-old in 2016 over allegations of serious sexual offences. The investigation, which Scott stated he fully cooperated with, did not lead to any criminal charges after the Crown Prosecution Service concluded there was insufficient evidence. He remarked in a statement: "Since the investigation related to an allegation that dates back nearly 30 years and the police investigation was closed 7 years ago, I hope that the public and the media will understand and respect my wish not to make any further public comment on this matter."
Gary Davies has been standing in as breakfast show presenter since Scott was removed from the air. Morning Live airs weekdays from 9.30am on BBC One and iPlayer.
