The Flash, a blockbuster comic book adaptation that defied fan expectations, is now available for streaming on Netflix. Originally released in cinemas in 2023, the film joins the platform's library as part of a significant update that includes several of the last DC Extended Universe titles before James Gunn took control of the studio's film and television output.
The movie sees Ezra Miller return as Barry Allen, the titular hero capable of incredible speed. According to the synopsis, worlds collide when Barry uses his powers to travel back in time to change past events. However, his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, trapping him in a reality where General Zod threatens annihilation and no superheroes exist—unless Barry can coax a different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian.
The Flash features notable appearances, including Michael Keaton reprising his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman for the first time since 1992's Batman Returns. The film holds a 63% Rotten Tomatoes score, ranking it among the top 10 highest-rated DCEU films, but it is more highly regarded by fans, with an 81% popcornmeter score.
One fan described it as 'a perfect live-action adaptation of the classic Flashpoint storyline', adding that it is 'essentially a self-contained story' that anyone can enjoy without prior knowledge of the DC canon. Another called it 'the best superhero movie of this decade', praising the CGI, action scenes, and Batman's portrayal. A third fan cited it as 'the best movie of 2023' alongside John Wick.
