I'm A Celeb 2024 starts with dramatic parachute jump

Celebrity Campmates Make Daring Entrance

The 2024 series of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! has officially launched with a spectacular aerial challenge that saw five contestants parachute from helicopters over Australia's Gold Coast. Martin Kemp, Kelly Brook, Aitch, Edie Kadi, and Shona McGarty successfully completed their first trial, landing on Broadwater Beach earlier today to begin their jungle adventure.

After jumping from individual helicopters, the relieved celebrities celebrated with an emotional group hug before dancing together on the sand. The 64-year-old Spandau Ballet guitarist Martin Kemp maintained his cool demeanour throughout the jump, while model Kelly Brook, 45, couldn't contain her excitement, jumping for joy upon safely reaching land.

New Format Changes Promise Toughest Series Yet

This year marks significant changes to the ITV reality show format, with producers implementing new measures to ensure celebrities 'fight more' and 'earn their keep'. Executive producer Olly Nash revealed to the Daily Mail that the luxury item feature has been removed, meaning contestants can no longer receive home comforts from loved ones.

Instead, celebrities must earn framed pictures of their choice through challenges, part of a broader strategy to keep campmates on their toes. The show has also introduced a new voting rule preventing contestants from being voted for consecutive trials after last year's controversy saw Dean McCullough face seven Bushtucker Trials in a row.

Camp Life Gets Even More Challenging

The first ten celebrities were split into two groups, with the first two from each group to complete initial challenges rewarded with seats in the new 'Getaway Car' featuring glasses of fizz. These winners will enjoy more comfortable mattresses in camp, while the remaining three from each group travel in the less desirable 'Coco van'.

Daily camp life has also been made more demanding. If a contestant wants a bath, two campmates must cycle on a tandem bike to pump water, ensuring everyone contributes to camp maintenance. Producers have noted an unusually high number of pythons in the jungle this year, with Nash confirming he's seen 'more snakes in this build phase than I ever have done before'.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 49 and 50 respectively, watched the parachute arrivals from a headland above the beach, waving to the new campmates but not directly speaking to them. The entire filming process took over four hours, with helicopters seen circling the National Park before the dramatic jumps.

The initial five celebrities will soon be joined by a second group including internet sensation Angry Ginge, Ozzy Osbourne's son Jack, Emmerdale star Lisa Riley, former Lioness Alex Scott, and Ruby Wax, who will complete similar arrival tasks. With producers promising the most competitive series yet, viewers can expect three weeks of heightened drama and challenges in the Australian jungle.
