Nicole and Natalie Appleton, best known as members of the chart-topping 1990s group All Saints, have spoken about their childhood in west London and their recent decision to make music together again. The sisters, born in Canada and raised between Ontario, London and New York, rose to fame after joining All Saints in 1996 alongside Shaznay Lewis and Melanie Blatt. The band enjoyed huge success with hits such as Never Ever and Pure Shores before splitting in 2001.
In an interview reminiscing about their early years, the Appletons recalled carefree days riding bicycles around their London estate. Nicole described their childhood as feeling like the countryside despite being in the city centre, with a large group of friends that included neighbours from all walks of life. She also remembered attending Sylvia Young Theatre School, where she met Melanie Blatt and Emma Bunton, and later reconnected with Blatt at a cafe where she worked, leading to her joining All Saints.
Natalie joined the group shortly after, and the sisters emphasised that working together never strained their relationship. Nicole described Natalie as her 'home away from home' during the 'craziness' of All Saints. The pair released music as the duo Appleton in 2002, and have since reunited with All Saints for three additional albums. Their new single, Falling Into You, is out now, inspired by encouragement from Nicole's son Gene, who suggested they go into the studio together.
The sisters maintain a close bond, speaking up to a hundred times a day, often about trivial matters such as the Australian reality show Married at First Sight. Nicole noted that while they no longer share bunk beds, their connection remains as strong as ever.
