Victoria Beckham Opens Up About Ageing and Feeling 'Not Good Enough'
Victoria Beckham on Ageing and Insecurity

Victoria Beckham has spoken candidly about reaching her 50s and why she rejects the concept of 'anti-ageing'. The 52-year-old fashion designer previously said she felt 'blessed' upon entering her fifth decade and marked the occasion with an extravagant celebration.

A Shift in Perspective

Addressing her perspective on growing older, Victoria said she refuses to succumb to societal pressures surrounding ageing and dismissed the idea that it can be prevented. 'I just want to be the best version of myself, I want to be healthy, I want to be fit and that's about it, I don't get too caught up in it,' she shared.

The wife of David Beckham revealed that her mindset stems from years of battling insecurity and being unhappy with her appearance. Speaking to The Times' Sarah Jossel on The Beauty Desk series, she explained: 'I think I spent my whole life feeling that I'm not good enough, I've been very transparent about that, and the great thing about getting older is you really care less about what other people think. I can own the narrative now.'

Acceptance and Self-Care

She continued: 'I've spent most of my life feeling that I'm not good enough and not liking how I look. And I think the great thing about getting older is that I now accept the way that I look.' The mum-of-four emphasised that reaching 50 doesn't mean 'you need to give up' or 'compromise', adding: 'You can still look good.'

For her part, she disclosed she now exercises more frequently than during her 20s and 30s, with training sessions alongside husband David Beckham proving particularly enjoyable. Regarding her complexion, she regularly indulges in various facial treatments and frequently uses LED masks in her own home.

Rejecting 'Anti-Ageing' Marketing

When asked why anti-ageing products won't feature in her beauty range any time soon, she condemned the 'negative' terminology frequently used around growing older. 'I feel like that was just a good marketing line to be honest,' she said. 'I don't believe that anything topical can stop the ageing process unless I'm missing something.'

No Plans for Retirement

During the conversation, Victoria also rejected any notion of retirement, voicing her determination to remain active. The fashion mogul celebrated her 50th birthday in 2024, marking the occasion with her fellow Spice Girls. In an extensive Instagram post shared at the time, she reflected on her achievements and expressed her desire to continue pursuing her passions.

'I feel so incredibly blessed to have reached this milestone. Blessed, but also accomplished and deeply content,' she wrote. 'Not just of where I am as a woman, but of how far my fashion and beauty brands have come. My ambition was always to empower women and make them feel like the best version of themselves. To me, that meant trusting my instinct and never compromising on my creative vision.'

She continued: 'I believe that you can be many things. A pop star, a mother, a wife, a designer... My passion has always been to dream big, then dream even bigger! Believe in yourself first - everyone else will follow.'
