Arlene Silver, the wife of beloved entertainer Dick Van Dyke, has publicly revealed she is being stalked near her Malibu home, leaving her feeling unsafe and unable to attend her daily routines.
Stalker disrupts daily life and safety
The 54-year-old makeup artist shared her fears during an Instagram livestream on Tuesday, confessing she skipped her usual yoga class due to the presence of an unidentified man. "There's someone kind of stalking me around Malibu. I don't feel comfortable even going out," she told her followers.
Silver explained the individual has been loitering around events related to her husband, who recently gave interviews about his new documentary, Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration. She believes the man has been following her for several months. While she has confronted him, telling him to "beat it," she has avoided sharing extensive details to not give him further attention.
Protection concerns and police involvement
The situation has escalated to the point where Silver is considering drastic measures. "Hopefully, he will go away, or else I'm gonna have to have a bodyguard escort me to my yoga class," she stated. Her husband, the centenarian star, offered to accompany her for protection, but Silver fears that might be exactly what the stalker wants.
She now plans to report the incidents to the police, noting a station is conveniently located across from her yoga studio. Until the matter is resolved, she intends to stay within her gated community. "He's a creep and he's doing things that are very weird. This behaviour is very disturbing. I don't feel comfortable about it. Neither does Dick," she emphasised.
A cherished personal hour under threat
The stalking is particularly distressing for Silver as it targets the one hour of personal time she carves out for herself. As the primary caretaker for her 100-year-old husband, her yoga class is a crucial respite. "My yoga class is the one hour I leave Dick," she explained, highlighting the isolation of living in Malibu and the importance of this solitary activity for her wellbeing.
The couple, who met at the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Awards, began their relationship after the 2009 passing of Van Dyke's long-term partner. They recently celebrated his milestone 100th birthday on 13 December with a joyous home party in Malibu, where Silver organised a flash mob.
However, the celebratory mood was later overshadowed by the tragic deaths of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele. Silver described the weekend as "such a weird, wonderful, awful weekend," contrasting the happiness of the birthday with the subsequent devastating news.
