Tina Turner's Legacy Acquired by Swedish Entertainment Innovators
The iconic Tina Turner's name, image, likeness rights, and the majority share of her music catalogue have been acquired by Swedish entertainment company Pophouse Entertainment Group. The deal, announced on Thursday 19 March 2026, marks another significant investment by the company behind the groundbreaking ABBA Voyage digital avatar experience.
Preserving a Rock 'n' Roll Legend
Pophouse CEO Jessica Koravos declined to disclose financial details of the acquisition from music company BMG, but emphasized the company's commitment to honoring Turner's extraordinary legacy. "What we want to do is really help to consolidate her legacy," Koravos stated. "I think that Tina Turner is up there, or is going to be up there, with the Elvises and the Marilyn Monroes of the world."
Koravos highlighted Turner's unique stage presence as a key factor in the acquisition: "One of the reasons that we were so interested in Tina is because she has such an incredible visual presence and such an incredible stage energy. And so, we're very much looking at projects that can portray that and try to recreate that to some degree."
The Queen of Rock 'n' Roll's Enduring Impact
Tina Turner, celebrated globally as the 'Queen of Rock 'n' Roll,' passed away in 2023 at age 83. Her remarkable career spanned decades and included:
- 12 Grammy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award
- Double induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (1991 and 2021)
- Kennedy Center Honors recognition in 2005
- Over 150 million records sold worldwide
- Iconic hits including "What's Love Got to Do With It," "The Best," and "Proud Mary"
Negotiations for the Pophouse deal commenced following Turner's death. While BMG retains a percentage of her catalogue, Koravos confirmed that Turner's estate was informed and participated in discussions, though not as a formal counterparty to the transaction.
Digital Innovation Meets Musical Legacy
While Koravos wouldn't confirm specific plans for a Tina Turner digital avatar, she revealed that Pophouse will announce their vision within the next six months. The company has established expertise in this domain through previous collaborations:
- Kiss Acquisition (2024): Purchased the hard rock band's catalogue, brand name, and intellectual property in a deal exceeding $300 million, leading to digital avatars revealed during their 2023 farewell tour.
- Cyndi Lauper Partnership (2024): Acquired majority share of her music catalogue with plans for innovative multimedia projects.
- ABBA Voyage: Created the immersive London concert experience featuring digital avatars of the Swedish supergroup in their prime.
These digital avatar projects were developed in collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic, George Lucas' renowned special-effects company.
A New Approach to Artist Legacy Management
Pophouse distinguishes itself from traditional music companies through its creative, artist-focused approach. "Most suits, when you tell them an idea, their eyes glaze over, they just want your greatest hits," Cyndi Lauper observed during her partnership announcement. "But these guys are a multimedia company, they're not looking to just buy my catalogue, they want to make something new."
Koravos elaborated on this philosophy: "I think what interests artists, and the estates of artists in some cases, is that there aren't very many people who are talking to them about what they want to achieve, creatively, around their body of work. So I think that is interesting to people, it's interesting to artists, who have got creative projects in their heads that they would like some support in realising."
The company maintains a selective acquisition strategy, with Koravos noting: "We're not trying to be a major (label). It's not a volume game for us. We want to acquire 10 or 12 really unique properties that have even more unique projects attached to them."
Global Resonance and Responsibility
Alistair Norbury, president of BMG U.K., Continental Europe and APAC, emphasized the importance of preserving Turner's authentic spirit: "Tina Turner's voice and spirit shaped modern music and popular culture. Our responsibility, alongside Pophouse and the Estate, is to ensure her work continues to resonate with audiences around the world, while remaining true to the strength, independence and originality that defined her career."
This acquisition represents Pophouse's continued expansion beyond Sweden, building on their successful track record of blending cutting-edge technology with musical heritage to create immersive experiences for new generations of fans.
