Strictly's James Jordan reveals brutal axe for pros with just one month's notice
James Jordan on Strictly pros' brutal axe with one month's notice

Former Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan has pulled back the curtain on the harsh reality facing dancers on the hit BBC show, revealing many are brutally axed with just a month's notice.

The Sudden Axe and Its Impact

Jordan, 47, who competed on the Saturday night staple for eight years between 2006 and 2013, spoke candidly about the devastating impact of suddenly being dropped. He explained that professionals are often told they are not returning for the next series as late as June, leaving them in a precarious financial and professional position.

"I've seen it happen to many of my friends on the show," Jordan stated. "All of a sudden they get told 'you're not coming back to the show'. You've kept your diary free August through December, but you get told in June you're not coming back. That's quite a hit." He emphasised that he understands why some struggle significantly with the news, having dedicated a large part of their year to the programme.

A Call for a Major Shake-Up

His revelations come alongside a bold suggestion for the show's future. Jordan has called for half of the current professional dancers to be replaced with fresh, younger British talent. He argued that some long-serving pros have had their time and should make way for new faces.

"You have to know when to hang up your dance shoes," he said. "I think there's a few people on there that maybe need to think about that. They've been on there a long time, they've had their time... let's get rid of 50 per cent of them and bring in some new ones." He specifically highlighted a desire to see more homegrown British dancers on the UK's flagship dance competition.

Judging Panel and Professional Tours

Jordan's proposed overhaul doesn't stop with the dancers. He also suggested it is time for a change on the judging panel, proposing that a former Strictly professional known for being outspoken should be considered.

Furthermore, he disclosed a particularly difficult situation where some dancers were informed of their axe during the Strictly Professionals tour, yet were still expected to complete the remaining dates with a smile. The BBC has been contacted for comment regarding these claims.

James, who danced on the show alongside his wife Ola until her departure in 2015, believes these significant changes are necessary to keep the long-running series feeling dynamic and fresh for its millions of viewers.
