Zac Goldsmith Launches Sports Radio Station Ahead of World Cup

Former Conservative minister Zac Goldsmith is launching a new sports radio station, trkradio, just weeks before the men's football World Cup begins this summer. The station, backed by Goldsmith and his brother Ben, has been granted a licence by Ofcom.

Trkradio is set to go on air next month, with presenters and additional investors to be announced soon. The station aims to offer reflective conversation across all sports, moving beyond traditional football phone-ins, alongside music programming.

Day-to-day operations will be led by Iain Macintosh, former head of UK audio at the Athletic, and Jonathan Arendt, ex-commercial director at LBC. The station enters a competitive market dominated by BBC Radio 5 Live and TalkSport.

Zac Goldsmith resigned as a Foreign Office minister in June 2023, citing the government's 'apathy' towards the environment. The 2026 men's World Cup, co-hosted by Mexico, the US and Canada, runs from 11 June to 19 July.
