EastEnders actor Danny Dyer is set to bring his signature charisma to a younger audience this week, as he becomes the latest celebrity to read a CBeebies Bedtime Story. The 48-year-old star will encourage children to embrace their emotions during a special episode airing on Friday, 5th December at 6:45pm.
A Powerful Message About Emotional Strength
Dyer will read the illustrated children's book 'Rhinos Don't Cry' by Mark Grist and Chris Jevons. Using his trademark humour and compassion, the actor will deliver a poignant message to his young viewers: that showing your true feelings is a sign of real strength, not weakness.
"When you're having tricky feelings, you should try and let them out, because it can make you feel better," Danny advised his audience. He emphasised that crying is a perfectly normal and healthy way to express emotion, reassuring children that "everybody cries, even grown-ups, in fact, especially grown-ups."
The actor reminded children not to judge by appearances, noting that someone who "may look big, or tough" experiences the same big feelings they do. His closing advice was heartfelt: "Whether it's big blubbery bursts or snivelly sobs, if you feel like you need to cry, belt it out loud and proud."
Joining a Star-Studded CBeebies Roster
Dyer's appearance continues a celebrated tradition of high-profile guests on the popular bedtime segment. He follows just a month after rock legend Jon Bon Jovi read Paul McCartney's 'Hey Grandude!', embracing his role as a grandfather.
The show has attracted an impressive array of Hollywood and music stars over the years, all aiming to soothe young viewers to sleep. Last year, actor James Norton read 'How to Manage a Mammoth' to help families discuss diabetes. He succeeded former One Direction star Zayn Malik, who was the second member of the band to feature.
Other notable readers have included:
- Kate Winslet, who read 'Grumpycorn' in the 2022 Christmas run-up.
- Tom Hardy, a frequent and popular guest who last read in May 2023.
- Dolly Parton, whose 2017 appearance sparked a major social media trend.
- Harry Styles, whose 2022 debut had parents gushing over his "beautiful voice."
- Even The Princess of Wales has taken part, reading a favourite book, 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark'.
Supporting Families Beyond the Screen
The episode coincides with the continued development of CBeebies Parenting, an online hub where the BBC has consolidated its resources for parents and carers. This community offers expert-backed advice, activity ideas, and support on topics ranging from speech development and potty training to establishing bedtime routines.
Danny Dyer's heartfelt Bedtime Story provides both evening entertainment and a valuable conversation starter for families about emotional wellbeing. The episode will be available to watch on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer after its initial broadcast on Friday evening.
