Adam Rickitt Announces Music Comeback with New Record Deal

Former Coronation Street actor Adam Rickitt has announced a surprising music comeback, revealing he has signed a new record deal and is back in the studio recording fresh material. The 47-year-old star, best known for his soap opera roles, shared the news in an Instagram video with his wife, former Good Morning Britain presenter Katy Fawcett.

A Nostalgic Return to Music

Rickitt's initial foray into music occurred in 1999 with his debut single I Breathe Again, which peaked at number five on the UK charts. The accompanying music video gained notoriety for featuring Rickitt stripping naked inside a glass box while being examined by doctors. He followed this with a solo album titled Good Times, which reached number 41 in the UK. Despite a six-album record deal, the album's performance led to him being dropped by his label, effectively halting his music career at the time.

Revealing the Comeback Plans

In the recent Instagram video, Katy Fawcett filmed the couple on their way to the studio, describing it as a very special day and teasing the announcement. Rickitt, appearing bashful, confirmed they were going to record a new song. Katy elaborated that he had been quietly performing gigs since Pride last year and had already been in the studio working on remakes of his older tracks, including a new version of Breathe Again.

The video captured a playful exchange where Katy asked if the new song was about her, to which Rickitt replied, You baby. She then jokingly requested to be his biggest groupie, and he agreed, saying, I've got to have one. The clip transitioned to scenes of Rickitt recording in the studio with a producer while Katy danced along enthusiastically.

Reflections on Past Struggles

Later in the video, Rickitt opened up about his previous music experience, stating, It was what every kid dreams of but because of what was going on in here (pointing to his head) I didn't enjoy it. It always felt like a wasted opportunity, to not have had the time of my life. He expressed optimism about his return, adding, Now I'm older and this isn't gonna get any better. It means I can do something and actually enjoy it this time and I can do it with you and that will make it worth doing.

Accompanying the post, Rickitt wrote, So a thing happened!! Out of nowhere seems heavy breathing is back in fashion… teamed up with a bit of singing and a few laughs along the way. Can't reveal the whole thing yet but NEW MUSIC incoming!! And this time we are doing it together, join us on this mad journey!

From Soap Star to Political Aspirant

Rickitt's career began as a child model before he auditioned for Coronation Street in 1997, landing the role of Nick Tilsey. He starred on the soap for two years before leaving to pursue music. After his music stint, he briefly returned to acting, with notable roles including a return to Coronation Street from 2003 to 2004, where his character was involved in the soap's first gay kiss.

In 2005, Rickitt ventured into politics, being approved as a prospective parliamentary candidate for the Conservative Party. He admitted he entered the race primarily to encourage young people's involvement but failed to secure a candidacy for the Folkestone and Hythe seat, ultimately ending his political aspirations.

Recent Acting and Personal Ventures

Rickitt later joined the cast of Hollyoaks as Kyle Kelly from 2017 to 2020, and made a brief appearance in BBC's Doctors in 2023. Outside of entertainment, he and Katy run a craft beer and artisan gin bar called Dexter and Jones in Knutsford. In 2023, they fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing a holiday home in Sicily, sharing their excitement on social media about making the island a bigger part of their lives.

Overcoming Personal Challenges

Rickitt has been vocal about his mental health struggles, revealing he suffered from anxiety and depression from age 13 to 30, describing much of that period as essentially suicidal. He also disclosed being scammed out of tens of thousands of pounds in a bank fraud scheme last year, which left him feeling embarrassed but motivated to warn others.

Additionally, he has spoken about living with Ankylosing Spondylitis, a condition that can affect fertility, leading him and Katy to decide against pursuing IVF and instead focus on other aspects of their life together.

This music comeback marks a significant chapter for Rickitt, blending nostalgia with a renewed passion for creativity, supported by his wife and a fresh start in the studio.
