Spice Girls fans were overjoyed by a surprise rendition of one of the band's hit tunes by two of the members, seven years after the last time they performed it on stage. Melanie C and Mel B reunited during a surprise set in Leeds, rolling back the years as they belted out one of their most popular songs.
Scary Spice joined her friend on stage to the delight of the adoring crowd, and the pair performed 'Spice Up Your Life'. Fans sang along, stunned by the unexpected reunion. One user online gasped: 'What is happening?!?' as they shared the special moment online.
Sporty Spice looked very much in character, wearing tracksuit bottoms and a colourful crop top. Mel B also opted for a throwback look with baggy jeans and a sleeved crop top. Their 90s-inspired appearance was well received by fans, who appeared to be loving every moment.
As she welcomed her former bandmate to the stage, Mel C told the crowd: 'I have to stop because this is such a special moment.' Mel B then interrupted: 'Don't make me cry.' Mel C continued: 'We haven't done this since 2019, girlfriend,' referring to their Spice World – 2019 Tour. At that time, the pair were joined by Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell-Horner, while Victoria Beckham continues to steer clear of public performances with the band.
After the performance, Mel B took to social media to praise the moment. Sharing a snap and video on Instagram, she gushed: 'Went to support my northern sister on the launch of her AMAZIN album SWEAT…. and she only ended up bloody gettin me on stage. LUV YOUUU and sooo proud of you @melaniecmusic !!! everyone go out stream order buy her album coz its AMAZIN and so is she!!!!'
Mel C echoed the sentiment with a clip of the tune, writing: 'Good to be back with my Spice sister @officialmelb in Leeds, thank you for sharing the stage with me.' Fans quickly branded them 'queens' for the reunion.
There had been talk of the iconic group making a full comeback, but fans were disappointed when it failed to materialise. However, all may not be lost. Last week, Mel C dropped the biggest hint yet that a long-awaited reunion could happen as the group approaches the 30th anniversary of 'Wannabe' this July. She recently said: 'Absolutely, it would be a crime not to,' as excitement builds among fans hoping to see all five women reunite. 'We are constantly discussing what we would like to do.'
In an interview with the Australian YouTube channel 7You, she added: 'I think the problem that we have and the reason why we often don't get together and do things is that it's so precious to us. We don't want to do the wrong thing. It's hard to get five people to agree, and when we do agree, it's very magical and very special, so I keep my fingers crossed that we'll be able to do something.'
