Zoe Ball admits 'carnage' of co-parenting with Fatboy Slim as new love revealed
Zoe Ball on 'carnage' of co-parenting with Fatboy Slim

BBC Radio 2 presenter Zoe Ball has spoken candidly about the realities of sharing parenting duties with her ex-husband, the DJ Fatboy Slim, describing the arrangement as sometimes descending into 'carnage and chaos'.

The Challenges of a Shared Family Life

The 55-year-old mother-of-two shares son Woody, 25, and daughter Nelly, 16, with Norman Cook, 62, the musician behind the hit 'Rockafeller Skank'. The couple separated in 2016 after 18 years together. Despite the split, Ball frequently posts family photos on Instagram, celebrating milestones like Nelly's 16th birthday last month.

However, in a new interview, Ball admitted that coordinating their children's upbringing with Cook, who still performs most weekends, presents significant difficulties. 'Other times it’s carnage and chaos,' she told The Times, while also insisting they have been 'really lucky' with their post-breakup relationship.

A New Chapter and Family Priorities

Ball confirmed she is now in a new relationship, with a mystery boyfriend living with her at her Sussex home. Previously referred to as a 'lodger' on her podcast, she clarified via email that he is her partner but prefers to keep his identity private. Her last public relationship, with builder Michael Reed, ended three years ago.

With her daughter Nelly sitting GCSEs this summer, Ball emphasised her need to be present. 'Just for this next six months, I need to be here,' she stated, explaining her supportive dynamic with Cook: 'When he has wanted to do things, I’ve been able to say, ‘I’ll be here for that bit.’'

Career Shifts and Strictly Speculation

Ball's focus on family influenced her decision to leave the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show in 2024, citing the toll of her 4am alarm. She later returned to a Saturday afternoon slot, but stepped back from her Saturday programme last year to create more time for her children.

This move has fuelled speculation that she is the frontrunner to become the new main host of Strictly Come Dancing, following the departures of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. Ball, a former contestant in 2005 and host of spin-off 'It Takes Two' for nine years, has said she would 'love' to take on the role, with fans noting her weekends are now free.
