Arsenal Brace for Atletico Madrid Pitch Concerns After Spurs and Barcelona Complaints

Arsenal are preparing for potential pitch issues ahead of their Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano Stadium. The Gunners are aware of previous complaints from Tottenham and Barcelona regarding the playing surface, which could pose a challenge for Mikel Arteta's side.

Tottenham complained that the pitch was watered too heavily before their last-16 tie in March, causing players to slip. Barcelona boss Hansi Flick also criticised the grass length during their quarter-final, suggesting it was deliberately left long to slow down play. Atletico have turned their home ground into a fortress this season, with a passionate 70,000-capacity crowd and Diego Simeone's tactical nous making life difficult for visitors.

UEFA regulations require the home club to ensure the pitch is in the best possible condition, with grass height not exceeding 30mm and even watering. However, Atletico are permitted to water the pitch between 10 and 5 minutes before kick-off and during half-time, which Arsenal will monitor closely.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are awaiting the return of defender Jurrien Timber, who has been sidelined with a groin injury. The Dutchman has yet to step up his training but is hoped to be available for the run-in. Eberechi Eze expects to be fit after a scare against Newcastle, while Kai Havertz is likely to be out for a longer period, though not a serious lay-off.
