Vogue Williams: Spencer Matthews 'Not For Me' Initially

In a surprising revelation, television personality and podcaster Vogue Williams has admitted that her first impression of her now-husband, Spencer Matthews, was far from love at first sight. The I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star has opened up about initially writing off the Made in Chelsea alumnus, believing he was 'not for her'.

A 'Disaster' Waiting to Happen

The couple's story began in 2017 while filming Channel 4's reality show, The Jump. At the time, Vogue was fresh from her split from Westlife star Brian McFadden. Spencer, meanwhile, was in a relationship and, according to Vogue, 'didn't seem in very chatty form' during their initial encounter.

Even if he had been single, Vogue believed a romance would have been doomed. She reflected that Spencer 'was yet to form a serious bone in his body', a stark contrast to her own tendency to get serious quickly in relationships. Her work with a therapist had highlighted a pattern of being drawn to men she felt needed 'fixing', a habit that always ended 'disastrously'.

From Red Flags to Romance

Despite her reservations, Vogue confessed they 'got on famously' after a more relaxed meeting. She recalled Spencer arriving wearing tracksuit bottoms, slippers, and 'reeking of booze'. In her book, Big Mouth, she wrote: 'Spencer, being a man made of red flags, was not for me I decided, and I didn't really fancy him anyway so it was all good. I did, however, love his personality.'

Her friends were keen on the match, 'really wanting me to sleep with Spencer', but Vogue insisted it wasn't on the cards, though she predicted he would become a permanent fixture in their friendship group.

A Swift Journey to Marriage and Family

Defying her own initial judgement, romance soon blossomed between the pair. Their relationship moved quickly, with Spencer proposing in January 2018 during a trip to see The Lion King in London's West End. They tied the knot just a few months later in June 2018 at the Glen Affric estate in Scotland, which is owned by Spencer's family.

The couple now share three children together: Theodore, Gigi, and Otto. Vogue has previously admitted that if they had met on a dating app, she would have 'swiped past' Spencer, judging him purely on his looks, which weren't her type at the time. She credits their strong connection to their personalities, advocating for meeting people in real life.

Vogue's candid confession comes as she enters the I'm A Celebrity jungle, a full nine years after Spencer's own brief stint on the show, from which he withdrew after just five days. I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV One.
