TikTok Hack Reveals You've Been Washing Rice Wrong for Years
TikTok Hack Reveals Wrong Way to Wash Rice

People are only just realising they have been washing their dry rice completely wrong for decades. Washing rice is essential to remove excess surface starch, dust, debris, and potential contaminants from the grains, resulting in a fluffier texture and preventing gumminess.

However, the process can be time-consuming, often requiring multiple bowls of water and careful handling to avoid losing grains down the drain. Many have struggled with the traditional method of rinsing rice in a colander or sieve.

A Viral Solution

A woman on TikTok under the username @awesomemotherhood shared a technique that has left viewers amazed. In the video, she fills a metal bowl with water in her sink, places a fine colander inside the bowl, and pours the rice in. She then uses a whisk to stir the rice quickly before lifting the colander out, emptying the water, and repeating until the water runs clear. Finally, she transfers the clean rice to a rice cooker.

The post garnered over 165,000 likes, but not everyone was impressed. Critics pointed out the method uses excessive water. One user commented, "My mother taught me not to waste water," while others echoed, "So much water wasted is crazy" and "Stop wasting water!"

Is It Worth It?

While the hack saves time and reduces the risk of losing rice, the water waste is a concern for many. Ultimately, the choice depends on personal priorities: convenience versus conservation.
