Fans of Sophie Habboo will witness the emotional moment she reveals her pregnancy to husband Jamie Laing in their new Disney+ series, Raising Chelsea. The former Made In Chelsea star makes this heartfelt admission in the first episode of the three-part series, which premieres on Thursday, April 2. The show documents the couple's journey from early pregnancy to the birth of their son, Ziggy, now nearly four months old.
Emotional Pregnancy Announcement Captured on Camera
In a touching scene, cameras roll as Sophie tells Jamie she sees a faint line on a pregnancy test. Setting up a camera to record his reaction, she enters the room and announces, "I'm pregnant, I am, it's a really faint line." Jamie responds in shock, saying, "No you're not... what?" as Sophie covers her face and begins to cry. He continues, "I don't understand, I don't understand!" collapsing onto the sofa while holding back tears.
Jamie questions whether it's a prank, asking, "Hang on, I don't know whether you're pranking me or not. Are you joking? Is that it?" before embracing his wife and exclaiming, "Oh my god, this is nuts." Later, he tells the cameras, "I was in total shock. I was not ready for that," to which Sophie quips, "I don't know why you were so shocked, we were actively trying." Jamie explains his mixed emotions, stating, "It was a mixture of anxiety, fear, worry, stress, relief, happiness, joy, love, everything combined into one."
Home Renovation and Financial Struggles
Elsewhere in the episode, Sophie and Jamie offer viewers a sneak peek inside their newly-renovated home, now valued at £12 million after extensive renovations. They discuss the mammoth costs involved, with Jamie highlighting Sophie's expensive taste. He reveals to the cameras, "If it was down to me, I would go for a little wood and like, stone, and maybe like a golf simulator, that would be my taste, but Sophie's taste is now that."
Jamie adds to builders, "Everything she picks is the most expensive... 'Oh, I quite like that one', obviously because it's the most expensive." He shares his panic over a £44,000 marble floor, saying, "Jack, I didn't realise how expensive marble was. They have quoted £44,000. I had a panic attack, and got over that, we can't do that, it's a complete and utter joke." He expresses frustration over budget overruns and timelines, telling Sophie, "You better love this place. I'm being serious, it's a lot," to which she retorts, "All you talk about is the money, it's embarrassing."
Finished Home Reveal
The couple later sees the finished house for the first time, starting in a snug lounge painted dark green with cream furniture. A marble fireplace is accented with a large black-trimmed mirror, matching panelled doors leading to the kitchen and dining room. The kitchen features stone flooring, a white and grey marble breakfast island, and a large wooden table. A walk-in wardrobe is covered in chic cream wardrobes, and the garden is landscaped with grass and flowers.
Background and Personal Insights
Jamie, who co-founded Candy Kittens and comes from a family with ties to McVitie's, has starred in shows like Strictly Come Dancing and The Great British Bake Off. He and Sophie co-host the podcast NearlyParents. In a recent Instagram post, Jamie joked about the 14-month renovation, saying it left them "nearly divorced."
Sophie has opened up about the pressures of new parenthood, admitting to explosive rows with Jamie after Ziggy's birth. She said, "It was constant, nearly a breakdown every day," while Jamie added, "I thought at one point Soph was going to divorce me! It was either going to be divorced or one of us was going to murder the other." Despite this, they aimed to show a raw, real journey in the series.
Addressing Postpartum Expectations
Sophie also addressed societal pressures to "snap back" after childbirth, hitting back against unrealistic expectations on social media. She explained, "I didn't necessarily feel that pressure from the public. Weirdly, there's more of a pressure on mums that you get judged either way. If you haven't snapped back, people are going to say something. If you have snapped back, people are going to say something." She emphasized focusing on her son, saying, "Ziggy's my priority and I don't put as much pressure on what I look like because my brain is thinking about him and it's actually quite freeing and liberating."
