Most of Australia is set for a warm and sunny Easter long weekend, with only northern and western Queensland and the Northern Territory expecting rain, according to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). Senior meteorologist Dean Narramore described the outlook as “a bloody nice Easter for many”, contrasting with last year’s wet Christmas in the south-east.
Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney will enjoy fine conditions, with temperatures reaching the high 20s to low 30s. Sydney expects sun and highs around 28°C, while Melbourne will see mid to high 20s, though showers and storms may develop on Monday as a new weather system moves in. Narramore advised those returning to Melbourne on Monday to “keep an eye” on the forecast.
Brisbane will stay mostly fine, with a chance of showers, while inland parts of New South Wales and Victoria could hit the low 30s. In South Australia, Adelaide is forecast to reach 30°C on Saturday and 28°C on Sunday, with storms remaining inland until later in the week. Perth will see continued dry conditions, with temperatures in the high 20s to mid-30s.
The calm weather follows extreme dry and warm spells across southern and western Australia. However, the east will see rain early next week, with wet weather reaching New South Wales and southern Queensland by Tuesday and Wednesday. The BOM noted that rain would be welcome in Melbourne, where only 2.8mm has fallen in March so far.
Tasmania will enjoy a fine, partly cloudy weekend with temperatures in the teens to low 20s, while the Northern Territory faces widespread thunderstorms and temperatures around 30°C. In the Australian Capital Territory, sunshine and highs in the high 20s are expected.
