Brooke Mueller, the former wife of actor Charlie Sheen, has launched a significant legal action, demanding the immediate payment of more than $15 million she claims he owes in unpaid child support for their twin sons.
Court Filing Details Multi-Million Dollar Claim
According to documents filed in a Los Angeles court on Thursday and obtained by The Daily Mail, Mueller, 48, is seeking a total of $15,386,243 from the 'Two and a Half Men' star. The substantial sum is broken down into two main components. The first is $8.9 million for child support allegedly due from March 2011 through to December 2025. The second, a staggering $6.4 million, is attributed to accrued interest on the missed payments.
In her filing, Mueller asserts that Sheen, 60, was required to pay $55,000 per month starting in April 2010. However, she claims he began making only partial payments or failing to pay altogether from July 2011 onwards. Beyond the child support, Mueller is also requesting an additional $25,000 to cover her attorney's fees. She has asked the court to order Sheen to pay the full amount within 30 days.
A Rocky History of Addiction and Custody Battles
The former couple's marriage lasted from 2008 to 2011 and was marked by well-documented struggles with addiction for both parties. They are parents to 16-year-old twin boys, Bob and Max. Their co-parenting journey has been turbulent, heavily dependent on Mueller's sobriety.
In a candid interview with PEOPLE magazine earlier this year, Mueller spoke about her ongoing battle with substance abuse, contrasting it with Sheen's own path to sobriety, which he achieved in 2018. She suggested that Sheen, who she said could "shut off" his addictive urges during their marriage, believes staying sober is a matter of "choice," a mindset she struggles to adopt.
"I think he thinks it's more about just making a choice, and then with the addiction [mindset], sometimes we don't have a choice," Mueller explained. Despite their fraught history, which includes a 2009 domestic violence incident where Sheen pleaded guilty to misdemeanour assault, Mueller has stated Sheen remains her "first call for help" in times of need.
Years of Legal and Personal Struggles
The child support claim is the latest chapter in a long-running legal saga. The twins have faced instability in their home life over the years. In 2013, they were removed from Mueller's care after she allegedly created an unsafe environment, leading to Sheen's other ex-wife, Denise Richards, becoming their legal guardian temporarily. Mueller has entered rehab multiple times, including a stint in 2019.
Sheen himself filed a request in 2018 to reduce his child support payments, citing a "significant reduction" in his earnings and claiming he had been "blacklisted" from parts of the entertainment industry. Last year, the pair appeared to have resolved their child support case, making this new multi-million dollar demand a surprising development.
Mueller has been open about the profound impact her relapses have on her family, calling it "unfair" that her sons have become accustomed to her cycles of addiction. "The sad reality, is they get used to it — Mommy is going to relapse again one day," she told PEOPLE. Representatives for Charlie Sheen have not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the new court filing.
