Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Vision for a Future Family
Pop star and actress Selena Gomez has candidly shared the type of family she dreams of having in the future. The 33-year-old celebrity, who married music producer Benny Blanco last year, expressed her desire to one day host a dinner table filled with her adult children and their partners.
Film Inspiration Fuels Family Aspirations
Gomez revealed that her vision was directly inspired by a memorable scene from the Christmas film The Family Stone, which features Diane Keaton as the matriarch of a large family. During an appearance on her husband's new podcast, Friends Keep Secrets, Gomez explained how this cinematic moment has stayed with her.
'I want four,' Gomez stated regarding the number of children she hopes to have, before referencing the film. 'She [Keaton] basically has this scene, and it's a dinner scene with all her children and I can't get it out of my head. It has always made me feel so good inside.'
Gomez elaborated further, saying, 'I said, "One day, at my dinner table, when I'm her age, I want to see that dinner table." I don't want, you know, not to say whatever happens, happens. If we're only able to have one, none... we don't know. But my dream for sure was that scene where they're all at the dinner table and they're just with their partners or their significant others or kids or single and it's just like beautiful cast of characters.'
Navigating Motherhood Challenges
Gomez has been transparent about her journey toward motherhood, acknowledging that it may look different than she originally envisioned. In 2024, she revealed to Vanity Fair for the first time that medical reasons prevent her from carrying children naturally.
'I haven't ever said this,' Gomez told the publication, 'but I unfortunately can't carry my own children. I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby's in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.'
The singer, who has battled lupus for years, explained that while her path to motherhood will be unconventional, she remains determined. 'It's not necessarily the way I envisioned it. I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone. I'm in a much better place with that. I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.'
Podcast Controversy and Personal Response
Gomez's family revelations come amid recent attention on her husband's podcast, where viewers expressed disgust over Blanco's dirty feet during an episode. Some fans took to social media to criticize the music producer, with comments ranging from calling him 'disgusting' to suggesting Gomez should divorce him.
One user wrote, 'Bro needs to take a shower and hire a better house cleaner,' while another stated, 'I am HORRIFIED.' Additional reactions included, 'Not even a minute into this benny podcast and am in complete disbelief..,' and 'the fact that his feet are ACTUALLY that filthy makes me sick to my stomach like selena girl what's going on.'
Despite the online criticism, Gomez demonstrated her unwavering support for her husband by kissing his feet during the latest podcast episode, showing she remains unbothered by the controversy.
Gomez humorously acknowledged the challenges of raising children, noting, 'So it's actually going to be crazy hell for all those years until they become adults.' Her openness about both her family dreams and personal life continues to resonate with fans worldwide.
