Scarlett Johansson Reveals Family's Mixed Reaction to Son's Unique Name
Scarlett Johansson on family's reaction to son's name

Hollywood star Scarlett Johansson has candidly shared the mixed reactions she received from her family after choosing the name for her youngest child. The actress, who welcomed her son with husband Colin Jost in August 2021, decided on the distinctive moniker Cosmo.

The Name Reveal and Family Reactions

While guest hosting the television show Jenna & Friends, the 41-year-old revealed she kept the name a secret to avoid judgement. "When we named our son Cosmo, I actually didn’t tell anybody for that very reason," Johansson explained. She described dreading the "weird face" people often make when hearing an unconventional choice.

She received a warm reception from her own mother, who fondly recalled that her third-grade crush was named Cosmo. However, the response from her mother-in-law was more measured. Jost's mother later suggested "Cosimo" as a more recognisable alternative, a comment the actress recalled with humour.

Balancing Motherhood and a Demanding Career

Johansson is also a mother to an 11-year-old daughter, Rose, from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac. Juggling a high-profile career with parenting two young children requires significant support. The actress openly credits two nannies for helping manage the family's busy schedules.

She emphasised the importance of routine for her children's stability, admitting that maintaining it sometimes means not being able to do everything. Like many working parents, Johansson experiences 'mom guilt', feeling torn between professional responsibilities and time at home. Her solution focuses on communication and sharing duties with her partner.

Parenting Moments and Professional Projects

In a relatable modern parenting moment, Johansson recently found herself explaining the concept of 'ghosting' to her pre-teen daughter, Rose. The conversation arose after Rose abruptly stopped speaking to a boy who liked her. Johansson confessed to having been a ghoster herself in the past, citing a dislike for confrontation.

On the professional front, fans can next see the Silver Screen siren in a new instalment of The Exorcist franchise. The upcoming Blumhouse and Universal film will be directed by acclaimed horror director Mike Flanagan.
