Gavin Rossdale Suggests Co-Parenting with Gwen Stefani Remains Challenging
Gavin Rossdale, the 60-year-old frontman of the band Bush, has made subtle yet revealing comments about his co-parenting relationship with ex-wife Gwen Stefani. During a recent interview with Fox News Digital, Rossdale hinted that their arrangement while raising their three sons—Kingston, 19, Zuma, 17, and Apollo, 12—might not be entirely smooth.
'A Two-Lane Highway That Doesn't Merge'
Rossdale described their co-parenting dynamic with a telling metaphor. 'It's a very, it is an interesting kind of... it's a two-lane highway, you know, but they don't ever seem to merge, which is fine,' he stated. The London-born musician appeared to acknowledge a degree of separation in their parenting approaches, though he quickly tempered his remarks by adding, 'Probably doing the best she can, and I'm doing the best I can. And the kids are growing up, so I'm a proud proponent of the system. It's fine.'
The couple, who were married from 2002 until their divorce in 2016, have maintained a public focus on their children despite the end of their relationship. Rossdale did not mention Stefani's current husband, country music star Blake Shelton, who has been frequently seen with the children since marrying Stefani in 2021 after meeting on The Voice in 2014.
Parenting Philosophy and Setting Examples
Rossdale emphasized that his primary parenting goal is to avoid raising 'jerks.' He elaborated, 'Making them likable. I think that if you've got kids that are unlikable, they've got a tough life ahead, you know. Life is hard enough without being a jerk, without being kind of aware of other people, mindful of other people, considerate of other people, empathetic.'
He expressed hope to lead by example, stating, 'And so all those things that I try to do my best in my life to be... Just try to show by example with my kids, consistent friends, consistent people around, and a sort of a steady approach to life.' Rossdale also shared concerns about the pressures facing young people today, noting, 'I feel connected to the pressure that young people have in terms of what to do. And if you go to college, what the hell are you gonna do in college, and then how are you going to pay off your student loans, and how are you going to go into the workplace? And it just seems very, very hard for people. Very, very hard. And I'm not sure if it's getting easier.'
Stefani's Spiritual Journey and Family Life
The interview comes weeks after Gwen Stefani, 56, opened up about her spiritual awakening following the birth of her third child at age 44. In a conversation on Hallow: Prayer and Meditation on YouTube, Stefani described welcoming Apollo as her 'first miracle,' revealing she had previously told her son Kingston she was too old to have another baby only to become pregnant naturally weeks later.
Stefani recounted deep discussions with a former atheist who had converted to Judaism, saying these conversations started 'waking [her] up.' She admitted feeling pressure to understand Christianity more fully, stating, 'It's almost scary because the more you know, the more fear you get. You realize, "Oh my gosh, I'm running out of time and I need to get this together. I've got to be a real Christian! I'm not gonna make it."'
Upcoming Performances and Family Background
Rossdale, who is also father to 37-year-old fashion model Daisy Lowe from a previous relationship with Pearl Lowe, continues his music career with Bush. The band is scheduled to perform at the Stagecoach country music festival on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Rossdale reflected on his career path, thanking God for finding his way in music years ago and emphasizing the importance of 'playing well, being enthusiastic, and having a good energy' in performances.
Despite the hinted challenges, both Rossdale and Stefani appear committed to their co-parenting roles, with recent sightings showing Stefani and her three sons spending time with Blake Shelton in 2023. The former couple's focus remains on raising their children amid their separate lives and careers.
