Global music and fashion icon Rihanna has been soaking up quality time with her family in her native Barbados this week. The 37-year-old superstar was spotted laughing and dancing with her three young children at a family birthday celebration in Bridgetown on Monday.
A Proud Mum Enjoying Family Life
Dressed casually in a striped black and white jacket over a simple t-shirt, Rihanna appeared in wonderfully high spirits. This relaxed family moment comes just four months after she and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, welcomed their baby daughter, Rocki, on September 13. The couple are also parents to two sons: RZA, aged three, and Riot, two.
A source close to the star revealed just how thrilled Rihanna was to finally have a daughter. "She's obviously so grateful for her boys, but she's been ready for some more girly energy. She's over the moon about her baby girl," the insider shared. They added that the new arrival has brought a "whole new energy" to the family and that Rihanna, who had "always dreamed of having a little girl," has been excitedly shopping for her daughter.
Deep Roots in Barbados
The Umbrella singer frequently returns to Barbados with her family, ensuring her children spend time with their extended family on the island. Rihanna's pride in her Bajan heritage is profound. In a powerful 2021 speech during a ceremony that named her a National Hero of Barbados, she emotionally declared, "I’m so proud to be a Bajan. I’m gonna be a Bajan ‘til the day I die. This is still the only place I’ve ever called home."
She reaffirmed this connection in December, posting a tribute to mark Barbados's 59th year of Independence and its 4th year as a Republic, calling the island "MY HOME."
Parents Marvel at Their Growing Family
Both Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have recently opened up about the joys and challenges of parenting three children under four. Last month, Rihanna raved about her "amazing children" but got sentimental about how quickly they're growing. "They're all getting bigger, and I cannot take it," she told Extra. "My sons, oh my god, their faces are changing. Their necks are getting longer. I love it."
Rocky expressed his delight at becoming a "girl dad," telling Entertainment Tonight that baby Rocki is his "baby twin" and is "cuter than ever." He also shared his pleasant surprise at how well his sons get along despite their close age, admitting he expected more fighting. The rapper did note that the older boys sometimes "get a little jealous" of their newborn sister, but emphasised there is "a lot of love to go around." He lovingly concluded, "Shout out to my boys and my baby girl, man. Daddy love y'all."
For now, the superstar is prioritising family life, enjoying the simple pleasures of a birthday party at home in Barbados, surrounded by her children and the culture she holds so dear.
