Prince Harry has announced his first corporate job, taking on the role of chief impact officer at BetterUp, a Silicon Valley-based mental health startup valued at $1.7 billion. The company provides executive coaching and therapy services through an app used by major corporations including Hilton, Facebook, and Chevron.
BetterUp, founded by Alexi Robichaux and Eduardo Medina, combines coaching with digital experiences to support professional development and personal growth. It charges companies around $2,000 per employee for six months of unlimited coaching and has raised $300 million in venture capital from investors including the UAE sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Capital and Olympic snowboarder Shaun White.
Prince Harry's salary has not been disclosed, but similar roles at California firms typically command six or seven-figure salaries. PR expert Mark Bukowski suggested the deal could be worth millions to Harry through salary and shares, while also providing significant publicity for BetterUp.
Harry was introduced to Robichaux through a mutual friend and has already contributed to strategy meetings, recommending a focus on resilience and overcoming adversity. He also revealed that employees of his Archewell foundation will gain access to BetterUp's services.
BetterUp has not reported profits but claims a valuation of $1.7 billion with over 200 employees and 2,000 contract coaches. The company's client list includes blue-chip firms, and it has been described as a 'life coaching Tinder' for millennials.
