Piers Morgan's Hip Op Fury: GMB Snub Sparks Social Media Row
Piers Morgan fumes at GMB for ignoring his hip operation

Broadcaster Piers Morgan has publicly chided his former colleagues on Good Morning Britain for failing to prioritise news of his sudden hospitalisation and hip replacement surgery.

From Restaurant Stumble to Hospital Dash

The 60-year-old journalist and presenter found himself in hospital after a dramatic accident over the weekend of January 19, 2026. Morgan revealed he tripped on a small step while dining at a London hotel restaurant, an incident he claimed resulted in a severely fractured femur.

The injury was so significant that it required a full hip replacement. From his hospital bed, Morgan shared an X-ray image and outlined the consequences: a six-week period on crutches and a twelve-week ban on long-haul travel, quipping that his "New Year [was] off to a cracking start."

A GMB Grumble Goes Viral

During his recovery, Morgan tuned into ITV's Good Morning Britain, the show he left abruptly in 2021. He was reportedly displeased to find that the programme, hosted by Susanna Reid, Kate Garraway, and Ed Balls, did not immediately lead with his medical emergency.

Taking his grievance to social media platform X, Morgan posted a screenshot of newspaper coverage about his operation. He directly tagged Reid and Balls, writing: "I think you guys are missing the big news today." His public nudge did not go unnoticed.

Susanna Reid's Vineyard Jibe

It appears Morgan's complaint was swiftly received in the studio. Co-host Susanna Reid soon addressed his absence, referencing the so-called "Blue Monday" and describing it as "the most miserable day of the year."

She updated viewers on their "good friend," confirming he was recovering well with a new hip and would remain in hospital for a few days. Reid also shared a humorous exchange, stating: "I did offer to turn up with grapes, but he says he has enough to open a vineyard, so I was rebuffed." She concluded by wishing him a speedy recovery, summarising the incident as involving "a restaurant, a stumble, and a whole new hip."

In a characteristically provocative twist, Morgan ended his own health announcement by quipping that he blamed former US President Donald Trump. The pair have been acquainted since Morgan won Trump's Celebrity Apprentice show in 2008, with Morgan previously stating their friendship stems from their similar personalities.
