Brooklyn Beckham has publicly declared his immense pride for his wife, actress Nicola Peltz Beckham, as she prepares to showcase her latest project—a starring role as a dedicated ballerina in the upcoming indie drama Prima. The move sees the 31-year-old heiress stepping into the artistic world of dance, a path famously trodden by her estranged mother-in-law, former Spice Girl and fashion designer Victoria Beckham.
A New Role on the Big Screen
According to industry reports, Nicola will take centre stage in Prima, the directorial debut of filmmaking duo The Morelli Brothers, Luca and Alessandro Morelli. The film boasts an impressive cast, including Jack Huston, Betty Gabriel, and Academy Award winners Faye Dunaway and Mira Sorvino.
The drama follows Margo, a prima ballerina raised by her strict grandmother, played by Faye Dunaway. Her disciplined world is upended when the head of her ballet company marries a contemporary choreographer, sparking a power struggle that threatens the institution's future and forces Margo to question her life's choices.
Brooklyn shared the news on his Instagram, posting a heartfelt tribute to his wife. He wrote: 'Wow x I am so proud of you @nicolaannepeltzbeckham x you are the most talented person I know and I am so excited for the world to see what an incredible film you have created xx. I love you so so much.'
Following in Victoria's Dance Footsteps
The project holds a poignant parallel to the Beckham family history. In her 2023 Netflix documentary, Victoria Beckham revealed that dance was her first love and a form of escapism from childhood bullying and insecurities. She described not fitting in at theatre school and facing criticism about her appearance, but being driven by her father's relentless work ethic.
Nicola has been preparing for the role since at least October last year, sharing images of herself in ballet attire during training sessions. Prima is based on a story and character by Nicola herself, adapted into a screenplay by Jenny Taylor-Whitehorn. It is currently in production.
Amidst an Escalating Family Estrangement
The professional announcement comes against a backdrop of a deepening and very public rift between Brooklyn, Nicola, and the wider Beckham family. Reports have revealed that last summer, Brooklyn instructed his parents, David and Victoria, to communicate with him only through his lawyers in an effort to protect his mental health, following what he perceived as negative social media posts and briefings.
It was subsequently confirmed by his brother Cruz that Brooklyn had blocked his entire family on social media. More recently, Nicola removed all traces of the Beckhams from her own Instagram account. She has also reportedly been 'liking' social media comments that suggest Brooklyn 'joined such a nice family' and imply there are private reasons for the estrangement.
The origins of the tension have been widely linked to Nicola's 2022 wedding to Brooklyn, where she did not wear a dress designed by Victoria—a decision Nicola has said was due to time constraints in the atelier, not a personal slight. Insiders also suggested the Beckhams felt sidelined during the wedding planning and on the day itself.
While both sides have previously denied a 'feud', the current communication breakdown appears stark. Brooklyn is said to desire any reconciliation to happen privately, not online. As Nicola forges ahead with her cinematic ballet debut, the personal drama surrounding one of Britain's most famous families continues to unfold off-screen.
