Mickey Rourke maintained a relaxed and informal appearance as he was observed making his way back to Los Angeles this weekend following a professional excursion. The Oscar-nominated performer, aged 73, opted for an ash grey sweatsuit complemented by sunglasses, a necklace, and a pair of white Adidas athletic shoes during the bright spring day in Southern California.
Return from Filming and Casual Outing
The actor, renowned for his role in The Wrestler, ensured he stayed hydrated by carrying a large bottle of water during the daytime outing. He was accompanied by a friend wearing a tie-dyed hoodie who assisted him with his luggage. Rourke was returning from Utah, where he had been on set for the forthcoming film Sol Hershowitz’s Guide to Extraterrestrial Life. In this project, he portrays a conspiracy theorist, as reported by TMZ.
Eviction Proceedings and Legal Battle
Rourke's residential circumstances have attracted significant media attention over recent months, commencing late last year when his former landlord, Eric T. Goldie, initiated legal action to evict the actor from a property he had been renting. Goldie stated in a court filing dated December 18 that the Hollywood veteran had occupied the home for most of the previous year, accumulating rental arrears exceeding $59,100 which remained unpaid.
Earlier this month, Goldie obtained a default judgment in the eviction case after Rourke failed to respond to the eviction notice within the timeframe stipulated by California law. The court awarded Goldie immediate possession of the property and terminated the remaining lease agreement, effectively barring Rourke from the home going forward.
Rourke's Explanation of the Dispute
Rourke's representatives provided the Daily Mail with a statement earlier this month, articulating the actor's perspective on the rental conflict. "The reason I stopped paying rent was because the living conditions in the house had become unacceptable," Rourke's team conveyed in the statement. "For months there were serious problems that repeatedly went unaddressed despite my efforts to have them fixed."
Rourke elaborated that "there were ongoing rodent issues that required multiple visits but were never fully resolved, and the bathroom and plumbing frequently did not work. I made repeated requests for repairs, but the problems continued and basic maintenance was never properly handled."
He emphasised that "withholding rent was not a decision I made lightly," but he felt compelled to take this action after being consistently ignored regarding critical issues affecting the property. "I simply could not continue paying for a house that was in such poor condition after so many attempts to have these issues corrected," Rourke told the Daily Mail.
Gratitude and Personal Reflections
Despite the recent challenges in his living situation, the Angel Heart actor expressed gratitude for various aspects of his life, including the opportunity to resume his acting career. "They let me slowly go back to work - I'm behaving myself, I was on time - there was no hotel room broken up," Rourke remarked. "I did everything wrong for 20 years, and then... took me 23 years of therapy."
Rourke, who declined six-figure donations from fans via GoFundMe after news of his housing predicament became public, stated he was prepared to accept responsibility for past poor decisions and their consequences. "The only person I got to blame for what happened to me," Rourke asserted, "was me. I got it a lot better off than a lot of people - I got a roof over my head - I got some food in the icebox; my dogs aren't going hungry."
