Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke has reportedly checked into a luxury West Hollywood hotel as he fights to avoid eviction from his Los Angeles home over substantial unpaid rent.
A Sudden Move Amid Financial Crisis
The 73-year-old star of The Wrestler and Sin City is said to be staying at a hotel favoured by celebrities, where rooms start at $550 per night. This move comes after he was served with a three-day notice to pay overdue rent or vacate his residence on December 18.
According to legal documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Rourke owes his landlord, Eric T. Goldie, a sum of $59,100 in unpaid rent. The actor had been leasing the three-bedroom Southern California property since March 30, agreeing to a monthly rent of $5,200.
Fundraiser Offers a Lifeline
In a bid to stave off the eviction, a friend and business associate of Rourke, Liya-Joelle Jones, launched a GoFundMe campaign on Sunday with the actor's full permission. Titled 'Support Mickey to Prevent Eviction', the fundraiser seeks $100,000.
The public response has been swift and significant. By Monday afternoon, the campaign had already raised $87,509, rapidly closing in on its goal. Jones stated the aim is to provide Rourke with "stability and peace of mind" during an "extremely stressful time."
"Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability," Jones wrote on the fundraising page. "What remains is a person who deserves dignity, housing, and the chance to regain his footing."
Packing Up and Potential Cameo
The unfolding situation was visible at Rourke's home this week. On Sunday, the actor was photographed leaving the property wearing a wig beneath a cowboy hat and carrying a bag of belongings alongside his dog. This followed a recent appearance where he sported a shaved head, a look that shocked fans.
Then, on Monday, two men were seen at the home moving bags of clothes and a suitcase into a truck, further signalling a potential departure.
Amid the news of his financial struggles, director Eric Spade Rivas has reached out with an offer. He told TMZ he is willing to pay Rourke $1,000 for a two-minute cameo in his upcoming film Scarface Resurrection. Rivas acknowledged the sum is modest but cited his limitations as a small independent filmmaker. He expressed a desire to make amends after Rourke previously dropped out of his 2020 film The Duke of New York.
This episode adds to a series of challenges for the actor. A source recently described him as 'rich poor' and living 'paycheck-to-paycheck'. He also made headlines last year for a controversial exit from Celebrity Big Brother following complaints about his behaviour towards fellow contestant JoJo Siwa.
Representatives for Mickey Rourke have been contacted for comment by the Daily Mail.
