Manchester United are intensifying their preparations for the summer transfer window, with both incomings and outgoings anticipated at the conclusion of the season. The club is closing in on Champions League qualification, currently sitting third in the Premier League, 11 points clear of sixth-placed Brighton. A 2-1 victory over Brentford on Monday night, courtesy of goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko, further solidified their position.
Swap Deal Prospects for Rafael Leao
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan are open to considering three Manchester United players as part of a swap deal for winger Rafael Leao. United have already made contact with agents regarding a potential summer move for Leao, but their primary target remains Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers. However, Leao could represent a more straightforward acquisition, with Milan now willing to listen to offers. The Italian club is reportedly seeking around €50 million (£43.3m), but their interest in three United players could facilitate a swap agreement.
The players mentioned are Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, and Marcus Rashford, all of whom are expected to depart Old Trafford this summer. Zirkzee has struggled to make a significant impact since his transfer from Bologna, while Rashford has spent the season on loan at Barcelona. The Spanish club holds an option to make the move permanent for £26 million, but they are increasingly unlikely to trigger it. Consequently, United may seek a sale, and using Rashford as part of a swap for Leao could be a viable solution.
Benjamin Sesko Deal: Financial Boost Forfeited
Manchester United have forfeited a financial boost from a scheduled friendly against RB Leipzig. As part of the agreement that brought striker Benjamin Sesko to Old Trafford last summer, a friendly match must be played. However, instead of United benefiting financially, Leipzig will receive all revenue from the game, which must take place within the next few years.
United completed the Sesko deal for an initial fee of around £66.3 million, but Sky Germany reports that this could rise to £74 million with add-ons. Approximately £3.5 million in bonuses are tied to appearances, goals, and Champions League qualification. In his debut season, Sesko has scored 11 times in 31 appearances across all competitions, including the winning goal in Monday's victory over Brentford.
