In a revelation that will surprise his legions of fans, Hollywood A-lister Matthew McConaughey has confessed he came "very, very close" to permanently relocating his family from the United States to Australia.
The Oscar-winning actor, known for his iconic roles and laid-back Texan charm, shared the fascinating story during a recent interview on the 'Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Riordan' podcast. He detailed a pivotal moment in his life when he and his wife, Camila Alves, seriously contemplated making the life-altering move.
A Love Affair With The Australian Way of Life
McConaughey's affinity for Australia isn't a newfound whim. The actor first fell for the country's unique vibe while filming the 2008 comedy 'Fool's Gold' alongside Kate Hudson. He was instantly captivated by the culture, the people, and the overall pace of life.
"I love it there," he enthusiastically told Riordan. "I love the people. I love the attitude. I love the pace. I think there's a great humility and a great confidence that comes with the people there."
The Tipping Point: A Family Decision
The idea of a permanent move crystallised after the actor spent an extended period in Sydney. He was so enamoured that he presented the concept to his family, who were immediately on board.
"I go, 'Kids, mom, what do you think about living in Sydney?'" McConaughey recalled. "And they were like, 'Yeah! Let's go!' We were very, very close."
Ultimately, the practicalities of their professional lives and deep-rooted family connections in America led them to stay. However, the "Dallas Buyers Club" star still holds a special place in his heart for his home-that-almost-was, frequently returning to soak up the sun and the culture.
