Gyokeres double sends Arsenal six points clear as Gunners brush aside Fulham

Viktor Gyokeres scored twice and assisted another as Arsenal moved six points clear at the top of the Premier League with a dominant 3-0 victory over Fulham at the Emirates Stadium. The Swedish striker, who had netted a penalty in midweek against Atletico Madrid, continued his prolific form by taking his season tally to 21 goals in all competitions.

Bukayo Saka, making his long-awaited return to the starting line-up, opened the scoring after nine minutes when he turned Fulham defender Raul Jimenez inside out and squared for Gyokeres to tap home. The lead was doubled when Gyokeres turned provider, feeding Saka to hammer a low strike into the bottom corner before the winger was substituted at half-time.

Gyokeres added a third on the stroke of the interval, rising to meet Leandro Trossard's pinpoint cross and looping a header over former Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno. After the break, Trossard again supplied Gyokeres, but Leno's outstretched paw denied the striker a hat-trick. Riccardo Calafiori had a goal disallowed for offside and later rattled the crossbar with a header.

Myles Lewis-Skelly impressed on his first senior start in midfield, with Mikel Arteta making five changes from the side that drew with Atletico. Gyokeres and Declan Rice were substituted after an hour with Tuesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg against Atletico in mind, making it a perfect evening's work for the league leaders.
