Television personality and socialite Lizzie Cundy has shared devastating personal news, announcing the death of her beloved brother, Peter.
An Emotional Tribute on Social Media
On Thursday, the 57-year-old mother-of-two, formerly married to footballer Jason Cundy, posted a poignant statement on Instagram. She accompanied her words with a framed black-and-white photograph of her brother from his younger years.
Lizzie penned an emotional tribute, describing Peter as a 'much loved son, brother and uncle'. She wrote that the news was shared 'with a heavy heart and great sadness,' confirming that her family is utterly 'heartbroken'.
In her post, she celebrated Peter's life, noting his career in theatre and film, his great love of dogs, and his passion for Chelsea Football Club. She remembered him as 'a real character and a kind soul who will be very much missed,' ending with, 'Can’t believe he has gone…Rest in peace dear Pete.'
A Family Steeped in Glamour and Grief
The tragic announcement comes just two days after Lizzie publicly celebrated her mother Gloria Miller's 91st birthday on Tuesday. Gloria, a friend of Queen Camilla, resides in the affluent area of Sandringham in Norfolk.
Lizzie had shared a picture of her youthful-looking mother, calling her 'the strongest woman I know'. She previously told the Daily Mail that her mother, a 'chip off the old block', enjoys a busy social calendar and 'likes to enjoy a tipple every day'.
Gloria, a former senior manager for fashion house Jaeger and a model, was married to art director Derek Miller. Following his sad death, she has remained active on the dating scene. Lizzie's upbringing was in a strict Catholic household, raised by nuns, with a father she described as a 'real disciplinarian'.
A Glamorous Yet Strict Upbringing
Lizzie's childhood home was frequently filled with notable figures, including world-famous photographer David Bailey. She even once went shopping with her idol, actress Sharon Stone, whom she found to be 'very nice'.
Her father, Derek, often featured Lizzie in his advertising campaigns for the Saatchi agency, giving her an early taste of fame. However, his strict rules led Lizzie to be 'very very sneaky' as a teenager.
In a past interview on This Morning, she recalled having to hide boyfriends, once shoving one into an airing cupboard and another having to jump out of a bathroom window to avoid her father.
Lizzie was married to Chelsea star Jason Cundy for 18 years, from 1994 until their divorce in 2012. The family now comes together to mourn the loss of Peter, a man remembered for his kindness and character.
