Pop superstar Katy Perry is said to be thoroughly enjoying her new romance with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, a development that has reportedly taken the singer herself by surprise.
A Surprising New Chapter
Insiders have revealed to People magazine that the couple's flourishing relationship has left both showbusiness circles and political observers stunned since they made their public debut last month in Paris. The songstress, who first sparked dating rumours with the prominent politician in July, announced her separation from long-term fiancé Orlando Bloom around the same time the whispers began—a turn of events sources claim she did not 'expect'.
Katy and Justin's official debut as a couple occurred at her 41st birthday celebration in the French capital, following closely after images surfaced of the pair enjoying an intimate boat day.
Flourishing Amidst the Spotlight
Sources close to the situation have now disclosed: 'Justin keeps making a big effort to see her and she's excited about it. [She has] a lot of fun with him. It's exactly what she needs right now.'
The relationship appears to be having a positive effect on the politician as well. An insider added, 'He is a much happier person now. Stresses are greatly diminished. And he is intrigued with Katy. They have fun together, laugh a lot, talk about everything.'
Prior to their first public appearance together, sources indicated that Katy was 'really into' her connection with Justin, noting her desire to keep things low-key. 'She's trying to keep it low-key, and they've spent a lot of private time together. She’s not looking to publicize this relationship,' a source revealed.
Navigating Recent Separations
This new romance unfolds in the wake of her split from Orlando Bloom. The former couple, who share five-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, began dating in 2016 and got engaged on Valentine's Day 2019. The actor is also father to 14-year-old son Flynn, whom he shares with ex-wife Miranda Kerr.
Over the summer, representatives confirmed to Daily Mail that the separation was amicable, stating: 'Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting... They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.'
For his part, Justin Trudeau announced his separation from Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. The former couple share three children. Trudeau served as the Prime Minister of Canada from 2015 until March 2025.
Multiple sources previously indicated to Us Weekly in September that the unexpected pair were seeing each other, with one noting, 'They've decided to be much more private about it. They are still speaking and are very interested in each other.'
Another source suggested the relationship 'isn’t serious' currently, partly due to Perry being 'extremely busy' with her Lifetimes tour. However, an insider added, 'Justin has made plans to see her when she has downtime in a few weeks when she gets back from her tour in Brazil. Katy is taking it day by day but is very open to dating.'
This relationship marks a significant new chapter for the Woman's World singer, who was previously married to Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.
