In a surprising revelation that bridges the worlds of royalty and celebrity, broadcaster Roman Kemp has shared delightful details about the Princess of Wales's visit to his family home, including an unexpected gift that became a hit with Prince George.
The Royal Visit
The future Queen's connection with the Kemp family began professionally, when Kate Middleton reached out to Roman to discuss a mental health project he had been fronting. Following a Zoom call with The One Show host, it was decided the Princess would visit Martin and Shirlie Kemp's home to film with their son.
Roman, 32, who finished third on I'm A Celebrity in 2019, described the surreal moment the Princess arrived. "I remember when she arrived she could see everyone else had taken their shoes off so she offered to take hers off," he told The Sun. "It was surreal, somehow you never expect to see a member of the Royal Family in their socks!"
The Homemade Gift
The visit quickly turned into a charming social occasion. "So my mum raced out and got a load of nice things in, and suddenly the future Queen is having tea and biscuits with her and my dad!" Roman recalled.
The most memorable moment came when Martin and Shirlie presented Kate with a bottle of their homemade apple juice, produced from apples grown in their back garden. Weeks later, the Princess demonstrated her renowned thoughtfulness by sending a thank you letter that contained a particularly sweet revelation.
Roman shared that the letter mentioned their future heir to the throne, Prince George, had enjoyed the Kemp family's apple juice so much that he was asking for more.
Beyond the Royal Visit
While this royal encounter was unfolding, Martin Kemp, 64, was making headlines himself on the other side of the world. The Spandau Ballet star and former EastEnders actor is currently appearing on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!, where he surprised campmates by revealing he had once been in the running to play James Bond.
"I was up for James Bond, I met Barbara Broccoli," the musician and actor told his co-stars around the campfire, leaving them gobsmacked.
Away from the silver screen, Martin has been married to Shirlie, who found fame in the eighties with Pepsi and Shirlie, since 1988. The couple share two children, Roman and Harley Moon Kemp, who both currently appear in the latest series of Celebrity Race Across The World, where Roman continues to bravely discuss his mental health journey.
