Television personality Josie Gibson has proudly showcased her remarkable five stone weight loss, following her adoption of a nostalgic '1970s diet' and recent surgical procedures. The 40-year-old presenter appeared slimmer than ever during a stroll through London on Thursday afternoon, radiating confidence after an appearance on ITV's This Morning.
Stylish Display in the Capital
Josie was all smiles for photographers as she navigated the capital city, dressed in a vibrant orange satin blouse paired with navy skinny jeans. Her outfit choice effectively highlighted her trim physique, which she has been diligently working to achieve. The skinny-fit jeans particularly drew attention to her legs, where she has undergone liposuction therapy as part of her ongoing battle with lipoedema.
Health Battle and Surgical Journey
Josie recently disclosed that she opted for surgery to counteract the effects of lipoedema, a chronic condition characterised by the abnormal accumulation of fat and connective tissue in the legs, hips, bottom, and sometimes arms. According to the NHS, this condition symmetrically affects both sides of the body. Josie underwent liposuction to remove stubborn, localised fat deposits, followed by VASER (Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance) treatment, which utilises ultrasound waves to break down fat cells.
During a candid conversation on This Morning with hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Josie shared her diagnosis journey. She recalled, 'Somebody actually said on Instagram, "You've got a typical lipoedema body." I always knew something wasn't right with my body, but I didn't know what lipoedema was at all - and I got diagnosed about a year ago and in September I had surgery.' Despite the hefty £7,000 price tag per procedure, Josie plans to undergo several more surgeries to manage her condition effectively.
Diet and Lifestyle Changes
Josie attributes a significant portion of her weight loss to dietary adjustments, notably a '1970s diet' that she swears by. This regimen involves intermittent fasting three days a week, coupled with a straightforward gym routine. The diet emphasises smaller portions and simpler, less processed foods, such as boiled potatoes, liver, spam, pork, beans, and Angel Delight. It also promotes home-cooked meals over convenience options like takeaways and frozen ready meals, with minimal sugar intake.
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Josie detailed her daily eating habits, highlighting the combination of intermittent fasting and nostalgic food choices. However, she humorously downplayed her slimmer appearance, attributing it to a mix of 'stress' and 'good angles.' She quipped, 'I bought a house which I'm renovating in Bath, trying to be a mum, running around the country working. I got so overwhelmed I got to Thailand and slept for 27 hours.' She added, 'I think it must be good angles, I'm so chunky and not as slim as you think.'
Confidence Boost and Holiday Snap
With her newfound confidence, Josie recently shared a bikini photo from her holiday in Thailand with her son Reggie. She jetted off to the tropical destination and enthusiastically recounted her experiences on Instagram, describing 'wild' parties at beach clubs. Josie wrote, 'Here’s to every one asking for hotel recommendations for Thailand. This is the @twinpalmsmontazurephuket it has some amazing beach clubs and the parties are just how I like them…wild. The staff were sensational thank you for a wonderful stay.'
Josie Gibson's journey showcases a multifaceted approach to weight management, blending dietary discipline, surgical intervention, and a positive mindset. Her openness about lipoedema and weight loss strategies continues to inspire and resonate with many facing similar health challenges.
