Flamengo footballer Jorginho has publicly clarified his comments regarding a recent security incident involving his 11-year-old stepdaughter and pop star Chappell Roan, describing his previous accusations as "a misunderstanding." The former Chelsea player had initially alleged that Roan's security guard acted aggressively towards his family at a São Paulo hotel in March, but has now retracted those claims following further investigation and private discussions.
Initial Allegations and Emotional Response
Jorginho originally stated that his stepdaughter was "extremely shaken and cried a lot" after what he described as an intimidating encounter with a security guard during breakfast at their hotel. The footballer, who was reacting to reports from his wife and child, emphasized his paternal instincts in protecting his family. "I made my initial statement in the heat of the moment," Jorginho explained on Instagram. "I reacted as any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did."
New Information Changes Perspective
The situation evolved when Chappell Roan, who was in Brazil performing at the Lollapalooza festival, publicly denied any involvement or knowledge of the incident. Roan stated, "No one came up to me, no one bothered me, I was just sitting at breakfast at my hotel." Subsequently, security guard Pascal Duvier came forward to clarify that he was not part of Roan's personal security team but was instead working for another individual at the hotel.
"At the time, we acted on the information that was available to us," Jorginho acknowledged. "Since then, I have become aware of new information that has changed my understanding of parts of what happened. Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out privately to [my wife] Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly. It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them."
Resolution and Moving Forward
Jorginho expressed appreciation for Roan's understanding and sympathy toward his family's experience. While he maintained that the security guard's approach to an 11-year-old child was unreasonable, he accepted that Roan was not responsible. "While we still do not know what prompted him to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old at breakfast could reasonably be seen as any kind of security threat, it is now clear that he was not acting on behalf of Chappell," Jorginho stated.
The footballer concluded his statement by drawing a definitive line under the incident. "It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight. It's important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine Ada, and our family. As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed."
