Masked Singer host Joel Dommett has landed himself in hot water after a major slip-up during filming for the show's upcoming Christmas special. The presenter inadvertently revealed the true identity of one of the disguised celebrities, throwing the ITV recording into pandemonium.
Chaos on Set as Host Spills the Beans
Dommett, who is returning to host the beloved ITV guessing game alongside panellists Jonathan Ross, Maya Jama, Davina McCall, and Mo Gilligan, made the error while taping the festive episode. The special, set to air on Boxing Day at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, features four famous faces disguised as Santa's Sack, Mistletoe, a Goose A-Laying, and Figgy Pudding.
According to Dommett, the chaos erupted when he recognised a very distinctive laugh coming from behind the Mistletoe costume. Without thinking, he blurted out the celebrity's real name. "I can't believe I did it," Dommett confessed to The Sun. "This person was chuckling in the costume and it's a chuckle I know well and I said their name. It just came out. Their actual name!"
Producers Issue Stern Warning
The host was left so embarrassed by his mistake that he reportedly collapsed to the ground upon realising what he had done. While he claimed the judging panel had already pretty much guessed the celebrity's identity, the show's producers were not amused.
They issued a firm reminder to Dommett about the rules of the secretive show. "Producers did reiterate to me that I wasn't to do that again," he admitted. "I was on the naughty step."
This festive special will also feature a host of pantomime legends offering clues to the judges. The line-up includes Su Pollard as the Fairy Godmother, Christopher Biggins as the dame, Lesley Joseph as the Wicked Stepmother, and Basil Brush as Prince Charming.
Not Dommett's First On-Air Mishap
This is not the first time Joel Dommett has found himself apologising for an on-air incident recently. Just weeks ago, while filming I'm A Celebrity... Unpacked, the presenter was forced to say sorry after swearing loudly.
The outburst occurred when his broadcast was interrupted by a large flying insect. Dommett was seen frantically jumping from his chair, batting at the insect and exclaiming, "Ohhh f***ing hell, that's massive." He quickly composed himself, remembering he was on live television, and offered a sincere apology, calling the experience "absolutely petrifying."
Despite the backstage drama, viewers can still look forward to the full Masked Singer series launching several weeks after the Christmas special. The main question remains: will host Joel Dommett be able to keep the other celebrities' names to himself?
