Haylie Duff, the older sister of actress and singer Hilary Duff, has officially ended her relationship with longtime fiance Matthew Rosenberg. The couple, who had been engaged for twelve years, parted ways earlier this year, according to a statement from Duff's representative.
End of a Long Engagement
The 41-year-old actress and the entrepreneur "ended their relationship around the first of the year," a spokesperson for the star confirmed to the Daily Mail on Monday. The representative emphasized that Duff "asks for privacy at this time in protection of her young daughters."
While the specific reasons behind the split remain unclear, the couple shares two daughters: Ryan Ava, aged 10, and Lula Gray, aged seven. Their relationship began in early 2010, with Rosenberg proposing on April Fools' Day in 2014. Despite the lengthy engagement, the pair never married, instead focusing on building their family.
Family Focus Over Wedding Plans
In 2018, Duff spoke openly about postponing wedding plans as they anticipated the arrival of their second child. "We talk about it and think, 'Maybe now we're ready to do it' and then life happens and toddler happens," she told People magazine at the time.
She elaborated, "We feel married already and it hasn't become something that both of us are gung-ho about. Maybe after the craziness of a new baby dies down we'll be ready to talk about it again." Duff also expressed excitement at the prospect of their daughter attending their wedding, calling it "pretty cool" during an event in Los Angeles.
Connection Amid Differences
Reflecting on their relationship shortly after their engagement, Duff highlighted the importance of family approval. "I think really when he became close with my family, and I saw how simpatico everybody was, that's when I was like, 'Okay, so not only do I love him, but they love him too.' And I feel like that's the way it's supposed to be," she shared with People.
She acknowledged their differences, noting they were "very different" but found common ground through family bonds.
Simultaneous Sister Estrangement
The breakup occurs against the backdrop of Duff's public estrangement from her younger sister, Hilary Duff. In March, Hilary addressed the long-rumored rift during an emotional appearance on Jay Shetty's On Purpose podcast.
"My sister and I don't speak," Hilary stated plainly, her eyes welling up with tears. She described the situation as "a very raw part of my existence" and expressed hope that the separation is "not forever, but it's for right now."
Musical References to the Feud
Hilary's recent music has fueled speculation about the sibling conflict. Her song "We Don't Talk" includes lyrics that seem to reference the estrangement, such as "Cause we come from the same home, same blood" and allusions to possible jealousy.
On CBS Mornings, Hilary confirmed the song is about her sister, calling it "the most lonely part of my existence." She admitted uncertainty about whether the track would help mend their relationship, stating, "I don't know if she'll hear it. I don't know how she'll react to it. But it is a really personal part of my life that doesn't get to stay personal."
The sisters, once close collaborators on projects like the 2006 film Material Girls, have not been seen together publicly since 2019. Rumors of a rift intensified when Haylie shared an article about leaving a "toxic mom group" that reportedly included Hilary and other celebrities.
As Haylie Duff navigates this personal transition, she remains focused on her daughters and requests privacy during this challenging period.
