Oscar-winning actress and Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow has offered a glimpse into her family life, sharing a series of personal moments on Instagram this Saturday. The slideshow, capturing highlights from her 'last week', prominently features her two children, both of whom appear to be stepping into the musical limelight.
A Musical Family Legacy Continues
The post included a selfie with her 21-year-old daughter, Apple Martin, who bears a striking resemblance to her mother. Apple, a senior at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, has recently faced public scrutiny for her vocal performance. On October 17, she sang with LA duo Jade Street at Cannery Hall in Nashville, receiving criticism for being off-pitch.
In an interview with The Telegraph in October, Apple addressed the unique pressures of her upbringing. "I constantly remind myself how grateful I am to have these opportunities," she stated. "I know this is not a normal way to grow up by any means, but my parents did a really good job of instilling in me that I shouldn't be entitled to anything. I have to work."
Paltrow's 19-year-old son, Moses Martin, also featured in the candid footage. The Brown University sophomore in Providence, Rhode Island, has just released a new single titled Promise with his band, People I've Met. The Martin siblings are widely seen as following the famous footsteps of their father, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, from whom Paltrow 'consciously uncoupled' in 2013 after ten years of marriage.
Paltrow's Own Return to the Stage
In a parallel musical development, Gwyneth Paltrow herself made a return to live singing. Last Thursday, with Moses by her side backstage at the Ahmanson Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, she prepared for a surprise duet.
She reunited with actor and singer Ben Platt during his 10-night residency at the venue, which ended on Sunday. Performing a rendition of Bonnie Raitt's 1994 song Dimming of the Day, the 53-year-old actress was praised for a 'pitch perfect' performance, confidently hitting all the right notes alongside the 32-year-old Grammy winner.
The collaboration marked a reunion five years after Paltrow played Platt's onscreen adoptive mother in Netflix's The Politician, a series co-created by her second husband, Brad Falchuk. Paltrow's singing credentials also include an Emmy Award win in 2011 for a guest-starring role on Glee, another series co-created by Falchuk.
Recent Headlines and Forthcoming Projects
Prior to this, Paltrow was in the news after being criticised by Kristin Cabot over a viral commercial for her company Goop. The advert, released on July 25, referenced Paltrow's past 'kiss cam' scandal with her married CEO boss, Andy Byron. Cabot, a former HR manager, labelled Paltrow a "hypocrite" in an interview with The Times last week.
Looking forward, Paltrow is set for an acting comeback on the big screen. She stars as wealthy retired actress Kay Stone, the much older onscreen love interest of Timothée Chalamet, in Marty Supreme. The film, Josh Safdie's solo directorial debut, opens in US cinemas this Thursday and in UK theatres this Friday. It currently holds a 'certified fresh' 95% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 128 advanced screening reviews.
The A24 ping pong drama, made on a $70 million budget, also features Tyler the Creator, Fran Drescher, and Penn Jillette. Meanwhile, Paltrow continues to helm Goop, the wellness brand she launched in 2008 as a newsletter, which has since expanded into e-commerce, summits, and a Netflix docuseries.
