Daniel Radcliffe Expresses Desire for Son to Avoid Acting and Fame

British actor Daniel Radcliffe, renowned for his role in the Harry Potter film series, has openly stated that he does not wish for his young son to enter the acting profession or seek fame. In a candid interview with WSJ Magazine, the 36-year-old star shared his reflections on navigating child stardom and his hopes for his family's future.

Radcliffe's Personal Insights on Child Stardom

Radcliffe, who shares a two-year-old son with his long-term partner Erin Darke, 41, discussed the mental adjustments he made to cope with early fame and build a successful adult career. He acknowledged that while he and his Harry Potter co-stars, such as Rupert Grint and Emma Watson, are often cited as positive examples of child actors transitioning smoothly into adulthood, it required significant personal effort.

"People often talk about me, Rupert and Emma and the Harry Potter kids in general as being a good example of, 'See, it can all be fine,' and yes it can be, but we all worked really hard on ourselves to make it fine," Radcliffe explained. "I honestly wouldn't want my son to act or to become famous. The thing for me that was the biggest difference-maker was I loved being on set."

The Importance of Support and Stability

Radcliffe highlighted the unique environment of the Harry Potter set in the UK, where a consistent crew provided a supportive atmosphere over a decade. He also credited his parents for maintaining a balanced perspective, recognising both the special aspects and the peculiarities of his early career.

"I'm also so aware of how tricky it can be — I think it's very different growing up on a Harry Potter set in the UK. The crew was mostly there for 10 years, so we were surrounded by a group of people that really cared about us. I was also really lucky with my parents. They had the right balance of being like, This is all really special and really cool, but also there's some stuff about this that is really weird," he added.

Current Projects and Critical Acclaim

Radcliffe is currently promoting the NBC comedy series The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins, in which he stars alongside Tracy Morgan. The show debuted on Peacock recently to enthusiastic reviews, with critics praising the dynamic between Morgan and Radcliffe.

Sam Adams of Slate noted, "Morgan and Radcliffe make a delightful comic duo, their shared anxieties vibrating on wavelengths that amplify one another rather than cancel each other out." The ensemble cast includes notable actors such as Erika Alexander, Bobby Moynihan, Jalyn Hall, Precious Way, and Craig Robinson.

Social media reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with one fan on X commenting, "Definitely recommend [The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins] pilot, which is full of Carlock-Fey heaters and immediately the best use of Tracy Morgan since 30 Rock."
