Daisy Fuentes, the celebrated model, MTV VJ, and actress who became a global style icon in the 1990s, is redefining what it means to age with confidence and authenticity. The 59-year-old star, known for her work with Revlon, appearances on Baywatch, and gracing the covers of magazines like Maxim and Cosmopolitan, recently shared her personal philosophy on growing older in an exclusive interview.
From MTV VJ to Lifestyle Mogul: A Lasting Legacy
Daisy Fuentes first rose to fame as one of the most recognisable faces of the 1990s. Hailing from Havana, Cuba, her career skyrocketed as a Revlon model and a popular MTV video jockey. She also showcased her acting chops on hit television series like Baywatch alongside David Hasselhoff and Cybill with Cybill Shepherd. Her sex appeal and charm made her a favourite cover star for publications including Fitness, Latina, and Stuff magazine.
Beyond her on-screen presence, Fuentes has built a formidable business empire. Her eponymous celebrity lifestyle brand, Daisy Fuentes, has been a staple in the US market for over two decades, marking one of the longest-running ventures of its kind. In her personal life, she made headlines in 2015 when she married chart-topping singer Richard Marx, famed for classics like 'Right Here Waiting'.
Embracing Evolution: 'I've Been Many Versions of Myself'
In a candid discussion about aging, Fuentes revealed that she views the process as a personal evolution. "I think that our philosophy on aging should reflect who we are, where we are, and our own evolution," she explained. "I've been many versions of myself." She described a continual process of shedding past identities, starting from her late teens, and acknowledged this as a natural part of growing older.
Fuentes was critical of societal, and particularly Hollywood's, prescriptive approach to aging. "I think what most of society, especially Hollywood, gets wrong about aging, is that there is one specific way of doing it," she stated. She argues that the journey is deeply personal, and there is no single "right way" to age gracefully.
Overcoming Fear and Finding Personal Comfort
The star admitted that navigating aging in the public eye hasn't always been easy. She recalled feeling nervous about getting older, especially after a youth spent in front of the camera. "You're doing swimsuit calendars and you're the girl of the moment, you age in front of the camera and then by the time that you're 40 or 50, people don't even know you," she shared, noting the harsh criticism women often face on social media.
However, Fuentes has moved past that fear. Her current mindset is one of self-acceptance and empowerment. "It's so silly once you really think about it, because the only one that has to be comfortable in my skin is me," she declared. For her, aging gracefully can mean anything from getting a facelift to going gray naturally—whatever feels right for the individual.
Recently, Fuentes stepped out looking fabulous at an awards show and showed support for her friend, Bad Bunny, following the news he will headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. "He is the example of what can happen when you are truly authentically yourself," she said, a sentiment that perfectly mirrors her own approach to life and aging.
