Met Gala Details
The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, known as the Met Gala, takes place on the first Monday in May. This year's theme is 'Costume Art,' with the dress code 'Fashion Is Art.' The exhibit, set to unveil the Met's new Conde M. Nast Galleries, will pair historical and contemporary garments, divided into categories including the classical and nude body, aging and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body. Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute's curator, stated that fashion has 'the status of art because of, and not in spite of, its relation to the body.'
The 2026 Met Gala host committee includes co-chairs Anthony Vaccarello and Zoe Kravitz, along with members Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Angela Bassett, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, and Teyana Taylor. The exhibition 'Costume Art' will run from May 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027, following the gala on May 4.
This year's event marks a significant moment as it is the first Met Gala since Anna Wintour stepped back from one of her roles at Vogue after 37 years. Wintour has been credited with transforming the gala into a premier A-list affair.
