Television personality Charlotte Dawson has reportedly ended her engagement to rugby league player Matt Sarsfield, calling time on their eight-year relationship for good.
The Final Straw: A Row in Manchester
According to sources, the couple's split was triggered by a massive argument at the launch party for Charlotte's tanning brand in Manchester on Thursday night. The insider revealed that Matt walked out following the blazing row, leaving Charlotte devastated.
"Charlotte and Matt have split – and this time she is saying it’s for good," a source stated. "She’s not managed to speak with him either because he’s blocked her on WhatsApp. Charlotte is trying to put a brave face on it now and says she wants to move on. She’s had enough of Matt."
A Relationship Under Strain
The breakup comes just over a year after a significant cheating scandal rocked their relationship. In August last year, Charlotte discovered that Matt had been sending intimate texts to another woman behind her back.
Addressing the betrayal on her podcast at the time, she said: "I've seen the messages they're not nice, it really hurt." The incident left her feeling profoundly hurt and humiliated.
Despite the turmoil, the couple experienced a surprise development weeks after the scandal broke: Charlotte announced she was pregnant with their third child. They attempted to rebuild, with Charlotte later admitting they were "taking each day as it comes" and that Matt was "trying."
Public Struggles and Private Heartache
Charlotte has been notably open about the challenges in their relationship. In a recent interview with Closer magazine, she confessed things had been "quite strained," partly due to the demands of parenting their young son, Noah.
"Noah's lack of routine and his co-sleeping with us has been quite straining on our relationship as well," she explained. "He only wants to go to bed when we do, so we don't have that time to talk and have tea together, and that's so important."
She had held onto hope that things would improve once their son started school, saying, "I feel like once Noah starts school, we'll find us again."
A Rocky Road to the Altar
The couple's relationship has seen several ups and downs. They previously appeared on Celebs Go Dating four years ago to work through their problems, splitting briefly afterwards before reconciling.
Matt proposed in September 2020 in a poignant setting – in front of a statue of Charlotte's famous father, comedian Les Dawson, in Lytham, Lancashire. Their first son, Noah, was born a few months later.
Matt, a second row forward who played for the Swinton Lions, is now reportedly out of Charlotte's life for good following the decisive split in Manchester.
