Brad Pitt's Son Maddox Follows Sister in Dropping Father's Surname

Brad Pitt's son Maddox Jolie has officially dropped his father's last name, eight months after his sister Shiloh made the same significant move. The 24-year-old, who works as an assistant director on his mother Angelina Jolie's new film Couture, is credited as Maddox Jolie in the end credits, rather than Maddox Jolie-Pitt. This revelation came to light through production notes provided to journalists when the film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.

Pitt Appears Unfazed During Greek Getaway with Girlfriend

Despite this family development, the 61-year-old actor was seen looking cheerful and affectionate with his 32-year-old girlfriend Ines de Ramon during an outing on Greece's Hydra Island. Pitt wrapped his arm around de Ramon as they strolled casually through the streets before boarding a small watercraft, where he continued to keep his arm comfortably behind her back. The couple, who hadn't been seen together publicly since November, were all smiles during their Mediterranean excursion.

Pattern of Name Changes Among Pitt-Jolie Children

Maddox's decision follows a pattern among the former couple's children. Last year, Shiloh legally changed her name to Shiloh Jolie shortly after turning 18, with her attorney Peter Levine explaining she made an independent decision following painful events. Previously, on Jolie's biopic Maria about opera singer Maria Callas, Maddox was credited as Maddox Jolie-Pitt when working as a production assistant.

Other children have also distanced themselves from the Pitt surname. In May 2024, Vivienne was credited as Vivienne Jolie on the playbill for Broadway musical The Outsiders. A year earlier, Zahara introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie during a sorority event at Spelman College, omitting Pitt's last name entirely.

Ongoing Family Dynamics and Legal Battles

According to sources, Pitt's relationship with his older children remains strained, with virtually no contact with the adult kids and limited engagement with younger children due to his filming schedule. The actor and Jolie finalized their divorce settlement in December 2024, concluding an eight-year legal battle. They continue to dispute ownership of their French vineyard and estate after Jolie sold her reported $64 million stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021.

Neither Pitt nor Jolie have publicly commented on Maddox's latest credit change. The Daily Mail reached out to both representatives but has not received a response at this time. Pitt is currently in the Mediterranean to begin production on his upcoming film The Riders, where he and de Ramon enjoyed their first public outing together in three months.

Jolie and Pitt share six children: Maddox, 24; Pax, 22; Zahara, 21; Shiloh, 19; and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. The family's complex dynamics continue to unfold as the children reach adulthood and make independent decisions about their identities.
