BJ Novak has made rare comments about Mindy Kaling's daughter, Kit, amid long-standing rumors that he is the father of Kaling's three children. The 46-year-old actor mentioned Kit, eight, in a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, sharing an anecdote about her wish to live at his house.
"Her eight-year-old daughter recently said she wished they lived at my house. When I asked why, she said, 'It's like a little house in the country,'" said Novak, who is Kit's godfather. He added, "I live in a Midcentury house in the Hollywood Hills neighborhood of L.A. I wanted one with a view but not up a creepy road with coyotes and Charles Manson acolytes." Novak purchased the property in 2011 and has not renovated it much.
Novak also spoke about his close bond with Kaling, describing her as his "best friend" and noting that they speak every day. He is also godfather to Kaling's son Spencer, five. Kaling has another daughter, Anne, two. The actress has previously said Novak is an "important and integral" part of her family, and the children call him "Uncle Fofo."
At Kaling's 2025 Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, Novak called her an "incredible mother of three" and praised her understanding of fame. "Mindy respects and understands [fame] in a very intuitive way because in addition to being a brilliant and wildly successful showrunner, an incredible mother of three, a deep and caring daughter and friend and mentor to so many," he said. "You'd be on the walk of talent if they had one." He added, "You'd be on the walk of friendship... You'd be on the walk of compassionate parenthood, but let's face it, all of these would be terrible field trips, so here you are instead, very deservedly, a person who means so much to so many on the Hollywood Walk of Fame."
In 2024, Kaling talked to People about parenting, noting that only her oldest child is starting to understand her celebrity status. "You know, I think as of now only my oldest would be able to appreciate it," she said. However, her son is not interested: "My son is more into, like, a trucks vibe."
