Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer's Sunset Tower near-miss sparks nostalgia
Aniston and Mayer's close call at Hollywood's Sunset Tower

Hollywood's Sunset Tower Hotel was the scene of a near-miss this week, as former flames Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer departed the famed venue within a remarkably short time of each other.

A Close Call at a Celebrity Hotspot

The Friends icon, 56, was spotted leaving the Sunset Tower with a group of close female friends, including Molly McNearney, the wife of talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. The group emerged from the bar and restaurant, a well-known celebrity haunt, into the Hollywood evening.

In a twist of timing, less than an hour earlier – reports suggest around 40 minutes – her ex-boyfriend, singer-songwriter John Mayer, 48, was seen exiting the very same venue alone. He was noted to have a book tucked under his arm, presenting a solitary figure compared to Aniston's lively girl's night.

Recalling a Tumultuous Romance

The pair's history dates back to 2008, when they were introduced at an Oscars party. Their on-again, off-again relationship lasted for roughly a year. They famously reconciled in time for the 2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, where photographs captured them beaming in a tight embrace.

Their splits, however, were often played out publicly. After one breakup in August 2008, Mayer held an impromptu press conference outside his gym, stating he ended it "to be alone." Sources close to Aniston at the time countered, telling the Today show she initiated the split, partly due to Mayer's alleged rapport with paparazzi and because she was "tired of paying for everything."

Reflecting later, Mayer told Playboy, "I’ll always be sorry that it didn’t last," citing their age difference and his then-active social media presence as points of friction. Aniston, for her part, told Vogue he remained a "wonderful guy" and that they "adore one another."

Moving On: New Chapters for Both

Today, both stars have firmly moved on. Aniston is now enjoying a blossoming relationship with Hollywood hypnotist and 'love guru' Jim Curtis, 50. The pair were first linked during a holiday in Mallorca in July 2023 and went public last September. Aniston has since praised Curtis as "extraordinary" and "very special" in an interview with Elle.

Mayer, meanwhile, is rumoured to be dating 30-year-old TikTok star Kat Stickler. The pair were seen together in October 2023, and a source recently claimed to Us Weekly that they are "getting serious," suggesting Mayer is ready to "settle down."

Despite their separate paths, this week's coincidental timing at the Sunset Tower serves as a poignant reminder of one of Hollywood's most talked-about past romances. Representatives for both Aniston and Mayer have been contacted for comment by The Daily Mail.
